충남 당진시가 체납차량 번호판 영치 활동을 통해 지방세 및 과태료 징수 성과를 크게 끌어올린 것으로 나타났다.
이는 조직개편에 따른 전담 부서 신설이 실질적인 효과로 이어졌다는 평가다.
당진시는 올해 3월부터 체납차량을 대상으로 영치 활동을 벌여 923대의 번호판을 압수하고 4억 2800만 원의 체납액을 징수했다고 15일 밝혔다. 이 가운데 자동차세 2회 이상을 체납한 차량에서 약 3억2500만 원, 과태료 체납 30만 원 이상 차량에서 약 1억300만 원을 거둬들였다.
당진시는 지난 2024년 조직개편을 통해 징수과를 신설하고 세외수입팀을 별도로 편성한 이후, 징수 실적이 눈에 띄게 향상됐다고 설명했다. 자동차세 체납차량의 영치는 전년보다 40% 늘어난 827대였으며, 과태료 체납차량의 경우 120% 이상 증가한 수준을 기록했다.
체납관리팀과 세외수입팀은 같은 부서 내 긴밀한 협업 체계를 구축해 지방세와 과태료를 동시에 징수하는 방식으로 효율성을 높였다.
