도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 16일(현지시간) 2박 3일 일정으로 두 번째 영국 국빈 방문에 나선 가운데 왕실 의전의 초특급 환대를 받았다.
미 'AP 통신' '블룸버그 통신' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 부인 멜라니아 여사와 함께 17일(현지시간) 버크셔주 왕가 거주지 윈저성에서 찰스 3세 국왕 일가와 함께 오찬 후 인근 세인트조지교회를 찾아 선왕 고 엘리자베스 2세 여왕 무덤에 헌화했다.
전날(현지시간)부터 시작된 트럼프 대통령의 이번 영국 국빈 방문은 고 엘리자베스 2세 초청을 받았던 지난 2019년 집권 1기 당시 방문에 이은 것이다.
전통적으로 영국 왕실 경우 미국 대통령을 두 번째 임기 중 국빈으로 초청하지 않았던 가운데 트럼프 대통령은 영국을 두 차례 국빈 방문한 최초 미국 대통령이 됐다.
찰스 3세 국왕과 커밀라 왕비는 이날 오찬을 위해 윈저성 영지에 도착한 트럼프 대통령 내외를 맞이한 후 왕실 마차에 동승한 가운데 왕실 마차가 성으로 향하는 동안 찰스 3세 국왕·트럼프 대통령은 기병대 호위를 받으며 의장대를 사열했다.
영국 '인디펜던트'는 “환영식에 육·해·공군 장병 1300명과 말 120마리가 동원됐다”고 전했다.

영국 과학혁신기술부는 성명에서 “마이크로소프트·구글·엔비디아·오픈AI 등 미 기술 기업들이 인공지능(AI) 인프라 구축·양자컴퓨팅 개발 등에 총 310억 파운드(58조3770억)를 투자한다”고 밝혔다.
앞서 영국 정부는 12.5억 파운드(17억불·2조 3457억)의 대미 민간 투자·금융 지원 약속과 함께 새 원자력 협정도 준비한 가운데 트럼프 대통령 방문때 서명할 것이라고 밝힌 바 있다.
