[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산국제영화제와 아시아콘텐츠필름마켓(ACFM) 기간 중, 인도와 한국의 문화·창의·교류의 여정을 함께하는 '인도의 밤, 바랏 팔프(BHARAT PARV)' 행사가 22일 오후 해운대 시그니엘 호텔에서 열렸다.
이번 행사는 인도 정부 대표단이 최초의 장관급으로 부산국제영화제에 파견되어 음악, 무용, 다양한 문화 공연과 함께 양국 영화·미디어 관계자들의 교류를 도모하는 자리였다.
이 자리는 무루간(Dr. L. Murugan) 인도 정보방송부 장관(Minister of State Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) 및 박광수 부산국제영화제(BIFF) 이사장, 김영덕 아시아콘텐츠필름마켓 위원장(ACFM), 강성규 부산영상위원장 등이 참석했다.
행사의 시작은 주한 인도대사관 미시칸 싱 대리대사의 환영사로 열렸다. 싱 대리대사는 “오늘 이 자리는 인도의 문화와 창의성을 소개하고, 한국과 더 나아가 세계와의 연결을 강화하기 위한 의미 있는 자리”라며 환영 인사를 전했다.
이어 Dr. L. Murugan 인도 정보방송부 장관은 특별 연설에서 “2023년 인도와 한국이 수교 50주년을 맞았으며, 올해는 특별 전략적 동반자 관계 10주년이 되는 뜻깊은 해”라고 강조했다.
그는 이번 부산국제영화제(BIFF)를 찾아 인도 정부 대표단을 최초의 장관급으로 파견한 사실을 강조하며, 한-인도 문화 교류 및 창작 협력 확대에 대한 강한 의지를 표명했다.
그는 “인도국제영화제와 마찬가지로 부산국제영화제는 창의성과 문화를 아우르는 플랫폼”이라며 영화제의 중요성을 높이 평가했다. 이어 그는 이번 행사가 “인도에서 부산국제영화제로 파견된 첫 장관급 대표단”이라는 점에서 특별한 의미가 있다고 말했다.

무루간 장관은 또 모디 총리가 이 역사적 순간, 즉 한-인도 간의 문화·영화 협력이 결실을 맺는 순간에 함께할 수 있어 매우 영광이라고 말했다. 그리고 ‘바랏 팔브(Bharat Parv)’를 통해 인도의 예술, 음악, 음식이 어우러진 문화의 향연을 선보이려는 계획도 밝혔다.
이어서 그는, 이번 행사가 인도의 시대를 초월한 유산을 보여줄 뿐만 아니라, 한국과의 문화적 교류를 더욱 심화하는 장이 될 것임을 강조했다. 또한, 올해 부산국제영화제에 참여한 것은 인도의 문화 외교 강화와 국제적 창작 협력 확대에 대한 굳은 의지를 보여주는 것이라고 말했다.
무루간 장관은 부산국제영화제를 “아시아와 세계 최고의 영화를 아우르는 자리”로 정의하면서, 인도의 참여가 공동 제작 확대, AVGC(애니메이션·VFX·게임·코믹스) 분야의 새로운 기회 창출, 그리고 한국과의 문화적 유대 강화라는 세 가지 큰 목표를 담고 있다고 밝혔다.
특히 그는 WAVES Bazaar와 Bharat Parv 같은 프로그램을 통해 인도가 창의경제, 풍부하고 영원한 유산, 뛰어난 인재를 세계에 소개하고 있다는 점을 강조했다. WAVES Bazaar에 대해서는 구체적인 성과도 언급되었다. 그는 “영화·음악·라디오·VFX·애니메이션 분야에서 800억 루피 이상의 거래 성과를 기록했다”고 밝혔다. 이어서 그는 이번 연도에는 “1,000억 루피 이상의 성과”를 올리며 이 플랫폼이 미디어·엔터테인먼트 산업의 국제 협력 촉매제로 굳건히 자리 잡았다고 했다.
무루간 장관은 첫 행사에서만도 250억 루피 이상의 계약이 체결되었고, 한국을 포함한 22개국의 주요 기업들이 파트너십에 참여했으며 영화·TV·게임 광고 등에 걸쳐 약 1,000여 개의 프로젝트, 5,500여 명의 바이어, 2,000여 명의 셀러가 WAVES Bazaar 행사에 참여하였다고 전했다.
마무리를 하며 '무루간' 장관은 한국과 인도의 창작자, 제작자, 유통사들과의 보다 긴밀한 협력을 희망하며, 이러한 문화적 만남과 프로그램들이 양국 간 이해와 유대감을 더욱 깊게 해줄 것이라는 기대를 표명했다.

이날 인도의 밤 행사 첫 순서로 주한 인도대사관의 미시칸 싱(Mr. Michikhan Sing) 대리대사는 환영사에서 인도의 문화적 다양성과 창의성을 소개하고, 글로벌 콘텐츠 파트너로서의 인도의 가능성을 강조했다.
미시칸 싱 대리대사는 “오늘 이 자리는 인도의 문화와 창의성을 한 조각 소개하고, 한국과의 우호 협력을 더욱 공고히 하기 위한 자리”라며, “인도와 한국은 2천 년 이상 이어진 역사적 관계를 바탕으로, 불교와 해양 무역 등에서 깊은 유대를 공유하고 있다”고 설명했다.
그는 이어 “2023년 양국은 수교 50주년을 맞았으며, 2025년은 특별 전략적 동반자 관계 10주년이 되는 해로 매우 뜻깊다”며, “지정학적 변화와 공급망 회복력, 그리고 빠르게 성장하는 인도 경제 속에서 양국 간 협력은 더욱 중요해지고 있다”고 말했다.
특히 이번 행사에서는 인도 정부 고위급 대표단이 처음으로 부산국제영화제에 공식 참여해 의미를 더했다. 싱 대리대사는 “이번 방문은 인도의 영화 제작 및 후반 작업 기술력을 세계에 알리고, 글로벌 협업 기회를 모색하기 위한 것”이라며, “이미 2015년 체결된 한-인도 오디오비주얼 공동제작 협정 등으로 양국 간 협력이 이어지고 있으며, 앞으로 더 많은 시너지를 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

박광수 부산국제영화제 이사장은 축사를 통해 “부산국제영화제가 아시아와 세계를 잇는 문화 플랫폼으로 성장해 온 것은 이처럼 다양한 국가와의 교류 덕분”이라고 강조했다.
그는 이어 “인도는 세계 영화 산업의 중심지이자, 창의성과 열정이 넘치는 파트너”라며 “이번 부산국제영화제를 통해 한국과 인도가 영화와 문화라는 매개로 더욱 긴밀하게 협력하길 바란다”고 밝혔다. 또한 박 이사장은 “부산은 아시아 영화의 허브 도시로서, 인도와의 공동 제작, 인재 교류, 기술 협력을 적극적으로 확대해 나가겠다”며 “이번 교류의 밤이 두 나라 영화인들에게 새로운 영감을 주고 미래 협력의 발판이 되길 기대한다”고 덧붙였다.

이어 김영덕 ACFM 위원장은 “인도 영화 산업은 세계에서 가장 역동적인 생태계를 갖추고 있으며, 그 창의성과 역사성은 우리에게 늘 큰 영감을 준다”며 환영사를 전했다. 그는 “부산국제영화제와 ACFM은 인도의 영화인들과 협력을 통해 아시아와 세계 관객에게 그 놀라운 에너지를 더 넓게 소개하고자 노력하고 있다”며, “오늘 이 자리가 교류와 우정의 상징이 되기를 바라며, 앞으로도 인도와 한국, 나아가 아시아가 함께 새로운 이야기를 써 내려가길 기대한다”고 말했다.
이어 감사패 전달식이 진행되었고, 환영 인사에 나선 인도 대표단은 박광수 부산국제영화제 이사장과 김영덕 집행위원장에게 깊은 감사를 표했다.
행사에서는 또 인도의 대표적 영화 축제인 인도 국제영화제(IFFI)를 소개하는 영상이 상영됐다. 영상은 IFFI가 1952년 시작된 아시아 최초의 국제영화제로, 현재 세계영화제작자연맹(FIAPF)이 공인한 세계 14개 A카테고리 경쟁영화제 중 하나임을 강조했다. 또한 매년 고아(Goa)에서 열리는 이 영화제가 인도 영화의 정체성과 세계 영화 산업을 연결하는 중요한 무대라는 점도 부각됐다. 영상은 “이곳은 단순한 영화제가 아니라 미래의 거장들이 탄생하는 자리이며, 세계 영화의 흐름을 이끄는 플랫폼”이라는 메시지로 마무리됐다.
이어 강성규 부산영상위원회 운영위원장이 무대에 올라 환영사를 전하며 그는 “코로나19 이후 전 세계 영화 산업이 큰 어려움을 겪었지만, 동시에 아시아 국가 간 공동 제작의 시대가 열렸다”고 말했다.
강 위원장은 “한국 영화계는 그동안 국내 시장이 워낙 강해 국제 공동 제작에 큰 관심을 두지 않았지만, 이제는 공동 제작이 생존 전략으로 자리 잡고 있다”며 “한국 영화인들은 이제 아시아 국가들과의 협력이 돌파구가 될 것이라 믿는다. 이번 기회를 통해 현실적인 공동 제작의 성과가 나오길 기대한다. 또한 내일 인도 정보방송부 장관이 부산영상위원회를 방문해 협력 방안을 논의할 예정이며, 머지않아 좋은 결과가 있을 것이라 확신한다”고 밝혔다.

Then, in a keynote speech, Dr. L. Murugan emphasized, “2023 marked the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Korea, and this year is the 10th anniversary of our Special Strategic Partnership.” He underscored the strong determination to deepen cultural exchange and creative cooperation between Korea and India, highlighting the significance of sending a ministerial‑level delegation to BIFF for the first time.
Murugan also said, “Like the International Film Festival of India, the Busan International Film Festival is a platform that encompasses culture and creativity.” He noted that dispatching the first ministerial‐level delegation from India to BIFF carries special meaning. He expressed his honor that Prime Minister Modi can be present at this historic moment, when cultural and film cooperation between India and Korea is coming to fruition. He announced plans for Bharat Parv, a celebration combining India’s arts, music, and cuisine.
He further emphasized that this event not only showcases India’s timeless heritage but also serves as a forum to deepen cultural exchanges with Korea. He stated that India’s participation at this year’s BIFF reflects a strong commitment to strengthening cultural diplomacy and expanding international creative collaborations.
Minister Murugan described the Busan International Film Festival as “a place that embraces the finest films in Asia and around the world,” and explained that India’s participation aims at three key goals: expanding co‑productions, creating new opportunities in the AVGC field (Animation, VFX, Games, Comics), and strengthening cultural bonds with Korea.
In particular, he pointed out that through programmes like WAVES Bazaar and Bharat Parv, India is showcasing its creative economy, its rich and everlasting heritage, and its outstanding talents to the world. He cited specific achievements for WAVES Bazaar: in film, music, radio, VFX, and animation sectors it has recorded over 800 billion rupees in transaction value. He added that this year the performance exceeded 1,000 billion rupees, establishing the platform as a strong catalyst for international cooperation in the media and entertainment industries.
He also noted that in its first edition alone, contracts worth more than 250 billion rupees were signed, with major companies from 22 countries including Korea participating in partnerships. Around 1,000 projects, 5,500 buyers, and 2,000 sellers in areas like film, TV, game advertising, etc. were involved in WAVES Bazaar, making it a forum for international cooperation and discovery of new opportunities, according to the minister.
In closing, Dr. Murugan expressed hope for ever‐closer collaboration between creators, producers, and distributors from India and Korea, and said he expects that such cultural encounters and programmes will deepen understanding and strengthen bonds between the two countries.
At the start of ‘India’s Night,’ Deputy Ambassador Micihkan Sing gave a welcome address introducing India’s cultural diversity and creativity, and emphasizing India’s potential as a global content partner. He said, “Today’s event is a moment to introduce a slice of India’s culture and creativity, and to cement our friendly cooperation with Korea.” He recalled that India and Korea share over 2,000 years of historical ties, with bondings through Buddhism and maritime trade.
He also noted that in 2023 the countries celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations, and that 2025 is especially meaningful as the 10th anniversary of their Special Strategic Partnership. He pointed out that amid geopolitical changes, the need for resilient supply chains, and India’s rapidly growing economy, collaboration between the two nations becomes ever more important. He stressed that India has already many ongoing cooperations in film production and post‑production, and with that foundation the potential for more synergy is large.
“Korea-India Film Exchange Expected to Reach New Heights” – Remarks by BIFF Chairperson Park Kwang-soo
Chairperson Park Kwang-soo of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) emphasized in his congratulatory remarks that “The Busan International Film Festival has grown into a cultural platform connecting Asia and the world, thanks to the active exchange with various countries like India.”
