[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 17일부터 개최되는 '제106회 전국체육대회」에 18개국 재외한인체육단체 선수단 1,512명이 참가한다고 밝혔다.
이번 규모는 2020년대 들어 최대 인원으로, 최근 4년간 전국체전 중 가장 많은 참가자 수를 기록했다.(※ 2022년 울산 1,331명, 2023년 전남 1,475명, 2024년 경남 1,478명)
재외한인 선수단, 8개 종목서 열전 펼쳐
올해 전국체전에서 재외한인체육단체는 ▲축구 ▲테니스 ▲배드민턴 ▲탁구 ▲골프 ▲볼링 ▲태권도 ▲육상 등 총 8개 종목의 재외한인부 경기를 치른다.
또한 일부 선수들은 ▲수영 ▲유도 등 일반부 경기에도 출전해 전국 각 시·도의 선수들과 함께 실력을 겨룰 예정이어서 대회의 흥미를 더할 전망이다.
참가 단체 규모를 보면 ▲재미국체육단체(167명)가 가장 큰 규모를 보였고, ▲재일본(158명) ▲재인도네시아(147명) ▲재호주(142명) 선수단이 뒤를 이었다.
부산시, 국가별 전담팀 구성해 전폭 지원
부산시는 경기 집중도를 높이기 위해 재외한인선수단을 위한 지원 시스템을 마련했다. 지난 14일부터 시 공무원 230여 명으로 구성된 국가별 전담팀이 운영되고 있다.
국가별 전담팀은 개회식이 열리는 오늘(17일) 선수단의 입장 행사를 밀착 지원하고, 내일(18일)에는 각 단체 숙소를 방문해 환영 행사를 진행한다. 또한 오는 21일에는 선수단 환영 만찬을 준비해 교류와 화합의 자리를 마련할 예정이다.
부산시는 선수단의 경기와 체류 전반을 세심히 지원해, 해외동포들이 오랜만에 찾은 고국에서 편안하고 뜻깊은 시간을 보낼 수 있도록 힘쓸 방침이다.

“25년 만에 부산서 열리는 화합체전 만들 것”
손태욱 부산시 체육국장은 “고국을 방문해 이번 전국체전에 참가해주신 재외한인체육단체 선수단 여러분께 진심으로 감사드린다”며 “25년 만에 부산에서 열리는 전국체전이 ‘화합과 감동의 체전’으로 마무리될 수 있도록 시 차원에서 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
이번 대회는 국내 시·도 선수단과 더불어 전 세계 18개국의 동포 선수들이 한자리에 모이는 자리로, 체육을 통해 국경을 넘어 하나로 뭉치는 ‘글로벌 화합의 장’이 될 것으로 기대된다.

The Busan Metropolitan Government announced that a total of 1,512 athletes from 18 overseas Korean sports organizations will participate in the 106th National Sports Festival, which opens today (October 17). This year marks the largest participation in the 2020s, surpassing previous figures for recent host cities — Ulsan (2022, 1,331 participants), Jeonnam (2023, 1,475 participants), and Gyeongnam (2024, 1,478 participants).
Eight Sports for Overseas Korean Teams
Athletes will compete in eight events established for overseas Korean participants, including soccer, tennis, badminton, table tennis, golf, bowling, taekwondo, and athletics.
Several overseas athletes will also join domestic divisions in select sports such as swimming and judo, giving them a chance to compete directly against city and provincial representatives from across Korea.

Among the 18 participating organizations, the Korean American team has the largest delegation (167 athletes), followed by teams from Japan (158), Indonesia (147), and Australia (142).
Dedicated Support Teams for Each Country
To ensure visiting athletes can perform at their best, the city has organized dedicated support teams. Since October 14, more than 230 Busan City officials have been assigned to national-level teams to provide logistical assistance.
These support teams will accompany delegations during the opening ceremony on October 17 and visit their accommodations the following day to extend a warm welcome. On October 21, the city will host a welcome banquet for all overseas Korean athletes to promote friendship and cultural exchange.
The Busan government is committed to offering thorough assistance throughout the athletes’ stay, enabling participants to enjoy a comfortable and meaningful experience in their homeland.
“A Festival of Unity After 25 Years”
Son Tae-wook, Director General of Busan’s Sports Bureau, expressed deep appreciation, saying, “We are sincerely grateful to all overseas Korean athletes who have returned home to participate in this year’s National Sports Festival. As Busan hosts the event for the first time in 25 years, we will do our utmost to ensure it concludes as a true festival of unity and harmony.”
This year’s National Sports Festival brings together domestic athletes and overseas Koreans from 18 nations, showcasing the spirit of connection beyond borders. The event promises to be a global celebration of athleticism, community, and shared heritage — all taking place in the dynamic city of Busan.
