파주시가 관광객의 안전과 편의성을 높이기 위한 '임진각 평화곤돌라 스카이워크 설치사업'의 설계 진행 상황을 점검하고 향후 추진 방향을 논의하는 자리를 마련했다.
파주시는 지난 23일 2025년 경기도 관광지 및 문화관광자원 개발 사업으로 선정된 '임진각 평화곤돌라 스카이워크 설치사업'의 설계용역 중간보고회를 개최했다고 27일 밝혔다.

이날 중간보고회에는 최병갑 파주시 부시장과 파주디엠지곤돌라 대표이사를 비롯한 관계자들이 참석해 사업의 설계 진행 상황을 면밀히 점검했다.
이번 사업은 곤돌라 상부 정류장에서 '캠프그리브스'까지 이어지는 급경사 보행 구간에 무장애 보행 환경을 조성하고, 관광객 편의를 위한 기반 시설을 확충하는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.
특히 휠체어나 유모차 이용자, 노약자 등 보행약자도 안전하고 편리하게 이용할 수 있는 환경 조성에 중점을 두고 있다.
중간보고회에서는 지난 6월 착수보고회에서 제기된 주요 과제들에 대한 심도 있는 논의가 이뤄졌다.
안정성 확보를 위한 구조 설계 방안을 비롯해 보행약자를 고려한 경사도 설계, 휴게 공간 배치, 안내 시스템 개선 등 관광객 중심의 이용 환경 조성 방안이 집중적으로 검토됐다.
또한 참석자들은 누구나 이용할 수 있는 특별한 경험과 편리함을 제공하는 시설 조성, 향후 운영 시 마케팅과 정기 행사를 통한 긍정적 이미지 구축, '캠프그리브스 역사공원'과의 연계성 강화 방안 등에 대해서도 활발한 의견을 나눴다.
최병갑 파주시 부시장은 "이번 중간보고회를 통해 다양한 의견을 공유하고, 이용자 중심의 설계 방향을 다시 한번 점검할 수 있었다"며 "관광객의 안전은 물론, 이동 약자도 불편 없이 이용할 수 있는 보행환경이 조성될 수 있도록 설계 단계부터 세심하게 반영해 나가겠다"고 말했다.
한편 '임진각 평화곤돌라 스카이워크 설치사업'은 2025년 경기도 관광지 및 문화관광자원 개발 사업으로 선정되어 국비 23.2억 원과 시비 23.2억 원 등 총 46.4억 원의 예산이 투입된다.
현재 2025년 3월부터 12월까지 기본 및 실시설계 용역이 진행 중이며, 2026년 3월 착공해 같은 해 12월 준공을 목표로 추진되고 있다.
파주시는 이번 사업이 완료되면 임진각 일대의 관광 인프라가 한층 강화되고, 연령과 신체 조건에 관계없이 모든 방문객이 평화와 역사의 현장을 편안하게 체험할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

Currently, basic and detailed design work is underway from March to December 2025, with construction scheduled to begin in March 2026 and completion targeted for December of the same year.
