서산시, “중부권 동서횡단철도 국가철도망 반영” 강력 촉구…

충남 서산시가 중부권 동서횡단철도의 제5차 국가철도망 구축계획 반영을 위해 전국 12개 지자체와 본격 공조에 나섰다.

서산시에 따르면, 19일 경북 예천에서 열린 ‘제10회 중부권 동서횡단철도 건설사업 시장·군수 협력체 회의’에는 서산을 비롯한 충남·충북·경북권 13개 시군과 한국교통연구원 관계자 등 100여 명이 참석해 철도망 신규사업 반영 방안을 집중 논의했다고 전했다. 

협의체는 이 자리에서 작성된 공동 건의문을 올해 말 중앙정부에 제출하기로 뜻을 모았다.

중부권 동서횡단철도는 충남 서산시에서 경북 울진군까지 13개 시군을 잇는 총 329~330km 규모, 사업비 약 7조 원이 투입되는 대규모 국책사업이다. 건설이 완료되면 서산~울진 2시간대 이동이 가능해지고, 지역 간 산업·관광 교류 및 경제 활성화에도 큰 기여가 기대된다.​

서산시와 협력지자체들은 지속적인 중앙부처 방문, 사회관계망서비스 챌린지, 국회 특별법 발의 등 다각적 활동을 이어가며 국가계획 반영을 촉구하고 있다. 

홍순광 서산시 부시장은 “동서축 철도는 남북 중심 교통에서 벗어나 국토균형발전의 토대”라며 “국제 크루즈선, 서산공항과 연계한 복합교통망 구축을 위해서라도 반드시 제5차 국가철도망에 반영돼야 한다”고 강조했다.

한편 서산시는 내포태안철도, 충청내륙철도, 대산항인입철도 등도 국가철도망 구축계획 반영을 위해 행정력을 모으고 있다. 이번 계획은 12월 공청회를 거쳐 2026년 상반기 확정될 예정이다.
