이재명 대통령이 20일(현지시간) "남북 대화가 단절되고 북핵 능력이 고도화되는 현 상황을 방치해선 안 된다"고 밝혔다.
이집트를 방문한 이 대통령은 이날 공개된 현지 국영 매체 '알 아흐람' 기고문에서 "한·이집트가 만들어 나갈 모든 미래의 기본적 토대는 평화"라며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "실용적 접근을 통해 비핵화를 추진할 계획"이라며 "가능한 분야부터 남북 교류를 단계적 확대하고 북한과 국제사회 관계 정상화 노력도 적극 지원할 것"이라고 했다.
이어 "한·이집트 모두 지역 평화가 한 국가 노력만으로 달성되기 어렵다는 점을 잘 알고 있다"며 "이집트가 지난 2년 간 가자 지구 사태에서 중재 역할을 포기 않았던 외교적 인내는 커다란 교훈"이라고 했다.
또 "동북아·한반도 평화를 위해 한국이 걸어온 지난 70여년의 노력 역시 같은 맥락에 있다"며 "양국 평화 협력 확대를 바란다"고 했다.
더불어 "한·이집트는 1995년 수교 후 이집트에 진출한 삼성·LG 공장에서 TV·세탁기·스마트폰이 생산되고 있다"며 "이집트에서 한국 음악·드라마 얘기가 꽃을 피우고 있으며 유구한 역사·문화를 가진 이집트를 사로잡았다는 점에서 감개 무량하다"고 했다.
