포항서 또 ‘차 포장 마약 의심물체’ 발견…시약 검사 결과 ‘음성’

【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=최근들어 제주와 동해안에서 ‘차(茶) 포장 형태’의 마약류 추정 물체가 잇따라 발견되면서 해양 마약 유입 경로에 대한 우려가 커지고 있다.

이런가운데 포항해양경찰서는 27일 포항시 남부권 호미반도 해안에서 관계 기관과 함께 합동수색을 벌이던 중 마약 의심 물체를 추가로 발견했다고 밝혔다.

포항해경은 이달 12일 포항 북부권 해안을 중심으로 1차 합동수색을 실시한 데 이어, 이번엔 남부권까지 수색 범위를 넓혔다. 해경은 “최근 전국 해안가에서 유사한 포장 형태의 의심 물체가 반복 포착되는 점을 고려해 추가 유입 가능성을 차단하기 위한 조치”라고 설명했다.

드론 8기가 동원됐으며, 포항 남부권 17개 거점에서 백사장과 갯바위 등을 중심으로 수색이 진행됐다.

수색은 이날 오후 1시33분께 성과를 냈다. 도구해수욕장 백사장에서 합동수색 중이던 해병대원이 녹색 우롱차 포장지 형태의 물체를 발견한 것이다. 포장지는 바닷물에 장기간 노출된 듯 심하게 손상돼 있었고, 내부에는 백색 가루 대신 해상 찌꺼기가 다량 유입된 상태였다.

포항해경은 현장에서 간이 시약 검사를 실시했고, 결과는 ‘음성’으로 나왔다. 단순 해상 쓰레기일 가능성도 배제할 수 없게 된 셈이다. 하지만 최근 제주도와 강원 동해안에서 케타민 추정 물체가 비슷한 형태로 발견된 점을 고려하면, 단순 해프닝으로 넘기기엔 아직 이르다는 지적도 나온다.

포항해경 관계자는 “결과가 음성으로 확인됐지만, 전국적으로 유사 포장 물체가 지속 신고되고 있어 경계를 늦출 수 없다”며 “합동수색을 이어가고 해안 감시를 강화하겠다”고 말했다.

일각에서는 이 같은 물체가 조직적 해상 운반 과정에서 유실됐을 가능성, 혹은 해외에서 표류해 국내로 떠밀려 들어오는 가능성 등 다양한 시나리오가 제기된다. 포항해경은 추가 분석과 함께 주변 해역의 감시 활동을 지속할 예정이다.

The Pohang Coast Guard conducted a simple reagent test on-site, which came back negative. This means the possibility of simple marine debris cannot be ruled out. However, considering the recent discovery of similar objects suspected to be ketamine on Jeju Island and off the east coast of Gangwon Province, some argue that it is too early to dismiss this as a simple incident.

A Pohang Coast Guard official stated, "While the test results were negative, we cannot let our guard down as similar packaging continues to be reported nationwide. We will continue our joint search and strengthen coastal surveillance."

Some suggest various scenarios, including the possibility that the object was lost during an organized maritime transport operation or that it drifted overseas and ended up in Korea. Pohang Coast Guard plans to continue surveillance of the surrounding waters along with additional analysis.
