이재명 정권 출범 이후 조사된 각종 정당 지지율에서, 더불어민주당이 국민의힘을 거의 대부분 앞서는 것으로 나타난다. 2026년 6·3 지방선거까지는 아직 기간이 남아 있기에, 지금 그 결과를 예측하는 것은 속단일 수 있다. 향후 전개될 정치적 상황, 사회·경제적 이슈, 지역 인물론 등에 의해 민심이 요동칠 수 있기 때문이다.
하지만 현재 시점에서 지방선거가 치러질 경우 국민의힘이 상대적으로 불리한 상황인 것만은 분명한 듯싶다. 야당 역할을 수행하는 데 있어서 충분한 신뢰와 매력을 주고 있느냐는 물음 앞에 직면한다. 집권세력을 보다 효과적으로 견제하거나 또는 설득력 있는 대안을 제시하지 못한다는 세간의 지적이 나온다.
물론 이재명 정권의 실책이나 파괴적 독선, 정책적 한계에 대해 연신 비판을 가한다. 하지만 여권을 대체할 수 있는 믿음 있는 세력으로서의 면모 부각에는 한계를 보인다. 무조건적인 비난보다는 생산적 비판과 합리적인 대안 제시가 절실하다. 강성 지지층 입맛에만 의존하려는 자세를 시급히 버려야 한다.
예컨대 유권층이 보다 폭넓게 공감할 수 있는 명확하고 설득력 있는 메시지 전개다. 국민 일반이 체감할 수 있는 현실 타개책은 물론이고, 희망을 가질 수 있는 미래 비전 제시다. 단순한 이재명 정권 비판을 넘어, 구체적으로 어떻게 문제를 해결할 것인지, 어떤 사회를 만들고 싶은지에 대한 명확한 정책과 로드맵을 보여줘야 한다.
아울러 민생 문제 해결 능력과 공감대 형성에 나서야 한다. 유권자들이 실제 피부로 느낄 수 있는 경제, 복지, 주거, 일자리 등 제반 사항에 대해 현실적이고 실행 가능한 해결책을 제시하고, 그들의 어려움에 깊이 공감하는 모습을 보여줘야 한다. 이는 유권자들의 마음을 움직이는 핵심적 요인이 될 수 있다.
내부 결속력 강화 및 분열 극복도 빼놓을 수 없다. 당내 이견이나 갈등을 최소화하고, 단합된 모습으로 대여 공략에 나서는 것이 매우 중요하다. 특히 선거에서는 더욱 필요한 덕목일 수 있다. 자중지란에 빠진 야당은 유권자들에게 짜증과 불안감을 주고 신뢰를 얻기 어렵다.
역량 있는 인물 발굴에도 적극 나서야 한다. 유권자들 기대를 충족할 수 있는 인재를 영입해 전면에 내세우는 것도 효과적인 전략이 될 수 있다. 이는 단순히 물리적 연령으로 재단할 일은 아니다. 지역사회 문제들을 해소하고 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 수 있는 자원일 때 소구력이 높다.
이를 위해서는 시야와 보폭을 넓혀야 한다. 어려움을 견디고 있는 다양한 현장의 목소리를 경청하는 등 소통 강화에 나서는 것이 바람직하다. 끊임없이 해결책을 모색하는 가운데, 명확하고 설득력 있는 대안을 전달할 수 있어야 한다. 이러한 점이 유기적으로 결합될 때, 유권자들 마음도 차츰 열리게 되리라 여긴다.

We must offer realistic and feasible solutions to issues that voters can actually relate to, such as the economy, welfare, housing, and jobs, and demonstrate a deep empathy for their struggles. This can be a key factor in winning voters' hearts and minds.
Strengthening internal cohesion and overcoming divisions is also crucial. Minimizing internal disagreements and conflicts and maintaining a unified front in our campaign against the ruling party is crucial. This is especially crucial during elections.
