한겨레신문 정치부 기자출신인 김성호 전 국회의원(현 헌정회 대변인)이 필자가 발행인인 매체(브레이크뉴스)에 칼럼을 기고해주고 있다. 1월12일자 “전두환이 정대철을 부르더니?...'내가 김대중 대통령 존경하오!'” 제목의 칼럼에서, 정대철 헌정회장(민주당 전 대표)이 김대중 대통령 시절 이런저런 이야기를 하다, 오래 전의 일이었던, 전두환 전 대통령과의 재미난 일화를 들려줬다는 내용을 공개했다.

이 스토리를 글로 읽으면서 전두환 전 대통령이 살고 있었던 연희동 집에 초청됐던 일화(뒷 이야기)를 해보련다.
나는 김대중 정권 때 일간지 등록(박지원 문체부 장관시절)을 받아 종합 일간신문(전국지) '일간 펜(일간 펜 그리고 자유)'을 발행 했었다. 말하자면, 일간종합신문 사주(社主)였다. 이때, 이영일 의원(전 국회의원)이 “문일석 발행인, 그토록 비판해왔던 전두환 전 대통령이 당신을 한번 만나보고 싶어하는데, 가 보지 않겠소?”라고 물었다. 기자로서, 못 갈 데가 어디 있을까?
설날 직후 연희동 단배식 자리에 초대됐다. 연희동 전두환 사저 지하실은 아주 드넓었다. 전직 장관급-의원들 30여 명이 모였다. 나는 제일 뒤에 서 있었다. 앞줄 전직 장관들과 악수를 하더니, 나를 향해 걸어왔다.

그는 내가 '반 정부 기자'-'아주 고약했던 반 전두환 기자'인 것을, 익히 알고 있었다. 나는 주간 시사신문 일요서울의 창간 편집국장(1994-1996년)이었다. 이때 전두환-노태우 두 전직 대통령을 포승줄(수갑)로 묶은 합성사진을 만들어, 이 신문에 여러 차례 게재하면서, 그들의 구속을 촉구하는 기사를 내보냈다.
