필자가 생각하기에, 참으로 오래 만에 정신세계(精神世界)의 그릇이 있다면, 그 규모가 아주 큰 사람을 만났다. 나는 올해(2026년)로 53년 차 기자이니, 그 동안 수많은 사람을 만났을 터이다. 한국 화가 임효 화가님이 바로 그분.
임효 화가는 지난 1월8일부터 2월1일까지 서울 종로구 삼청동 전북도립미술관 서울 분관에서 개인전을 열고 있다. 그림 전시장에서 이 분을 뵀다. 전시된 작품들-모두가 범상치 않았다.

임효 화가는 그의 저서 ‘허공줍기’에서 “"탄생과 소멸이 거듭되는데/무엇을 얻고 버림이 있겠는가/ 하루를 만나 살더라도/깊은 인연의 늪에서 빠져나온 것이니/그 마음을 아름답게 받아주자/ 너와 내가 본래 하나였으니/살아가는 시간의 연속이다. <임효, '그림 속에 놀다', 나무생각, 98쪽>”라고 피력했다. 아주 절제된 시어이다.
