전 세계적인 인기를 끌고 있는 게임 캐릭터 ‘쿠키런’이 우리 국가유산의 가치를 세계에 알리는 홍보대사로 나선다. 국가유산청은 제48차 유네스코 세계유산위원회의 성공적인 개최를 위해 민간 기업과 협력해 전방위적인 홍보에 박차를 가할 계획이다.
국가유산청(청장 허민)은 지난 2일 오후 덕수궁 돈덕전에서 데브시스터즈(대표이사 조길현)와 업무협약을 체결했다.
이번 협약은 오는 6월 국내 최초로 개최되는 ‘제48차 유네스코 세계유산위원회’를 앞두고, 우리나라 세계유산의 아름다움을 전 세계에 효과적으로 전달하기 위해 마련됐다.
양 기관은 이번 협약을 통해 쿠키런 지식재산권(IP)을 활용한 국가유산 홍보 ,세계유산 관련 콘텐츠 개발 ,위원회 연계 행사 참여 및 지원 등을 약속했다.
오는 6월부터는 온·오프라인을 넘나드는 대대적인 홍보 사업이 전개된다.
주요 사업 내용은 미디어아트 개발로 국내 세계유산 17건을 시각화한 미디어아트 제작, 게임 내 테마 적용을 위한 쿠키런 게임에 국가유산을 모티브로 한 ‘K-헤리티지런’ 테마 업데이트, 오프라인 프로모션을 통한 위원회 개최지인 부산 방문객을 대상으로 한 다양한 판촉 활동 등이 포함된다.
이미 양 기관의 협업은 가시적인 성과를 거두고 있다. 지난해 12월부터 진행 중인 특별전 '쿠키런: 사라진 국가유산을 찾아서'는 개막 한 달 반 만에 누적 관람객 10만 명을 돌파하며 흥행 가도를 달리고 있다.
이에 따라 당초 3월 1일까지였던 전시 기간은 4월 5일까지로 한 달여 연장됐다.
특히 이번 전시의 핵심 유물 중 하나인 ‘대한국새’는 데브시스터즈의 지원으로 국내 최초 복원된 것으로, 전시 종료 후 덕수궁에 기증될 예정이라 그 의미를 더한다.
국가유산청은 이번 협약을 통해 국가유산을 어렵고 딱딱한 이미지가 아닌, 누구나 쉽고 흥미롭게 즐길 수 있는 문화 콘텐츠로 탈바꿈시킨다는 전략이다.
국가유산청 관계자는 “게임이라는 친숙한 매체를 통해 K-헤리티지의 가치가 국내외에서 새롭게 조명받길 바란다”며, “제48차 유네스코 세계유산위원회를 성공적으로 이끌어 우리 유산의 우수성을 전 세계에 각인시키겠다”고 밝혔다.

The "Daehankuk Sae," one of the key artifacts of this exhibition, was restored for the first time in Korea with support from Devsisters and will be donated to Deoksugung Palace after the exhibition, adding to its significance.
