6·3 전국동시지방선거 예비후보 등록이 시작됐다. 지역민들 삶에 직접적인 영향을 끼친다는 점에서 매우 중요하다. 이재명 정권은 대통령 권력과 함께 국회의 압도적 수적 우위를 앞세운 파괴적 독선에 심취해 있다. 그에 따른 국민적 우려도 날로 늘고 있는 추세다.
국정 운영에 있어 야당의 견제와 비판은 정책 효율성과 투명성을 높이고 권력 남용과 부패 방지에 필수적이다. 하지만 이를 구현해야 할 국민의힘은 소수 야당의 한계에 봉착해 있다. 만일 지방선거마저 패퇴할 경우, 이재명 정권의 일방통행은 더욱 기승을 부릴 것이다.
권력의 절대 반지를 쥐고 있는 이재명 정부와 더불어민주당. 87년 직선제 이후, 지금보다 더한 권력 독점은 없었다. 하지만 '절대 권력은 절대 부패한다'는 것이 정설이다. 그들 내부에서 터지는 권력 남용과 부패로 인한 악취가 역겨울 지경이다. 그런데도 안하무인이다.
야당의 건재를 통한 감시와 견제는 국가 운영에 있어 방파제 역할을 한다. 여권의 일방적 전횡에 맞서 싸우는 강인한 투지, 건설적인 견제와 비판, 유권자들 불만 대변, 미래 비전 및 현실적인 대안 제시, 정책 역량 강화 등은 야당으로서 마땅히 갖춰야 할 본원적 역할에 속한다.
예컨대 정부 정책의 문제점을 깊게 분석하고, 더 나은 방향을 제시할 수 있어야 한다. 단순한 정쟁이 아닌, 국민 다수와 공감할 수 있는 논리적 근거와 대안 제시를 통한 신뢰 구축이다. 특히 사회 경제적 약자의 목소리에 귀 기울이는 낮은 자세가 상시 요구된다.
정치가 국민에게 희망과 기대를 안겨주지 못한다면 백약이 무효다. 다양한 시대적 과제에 대한 명확한 해법 제시를 통해 수권 능력을 입증해야 한다. 이재명 정권에 대한 건설적인 견제와 함께 '국민의힘이 향후 집권하면 더 잘할 수 있다'는 메시지 전달이다.
이를 위한 전문가 집단과의 협력, 심층적인 연구를 통해 정책적 깊이를 더하는 것이 긴요하다. 국민의힘이 대안 세력이라는 인식을 심어주는 데 집중해야 할 필요성이 높다. 건설적인 접근은 정치적 신뢰를 쌓고, 궁극적으로 국민적 지지를 얻는 중요한 밑거름이 된다.
국민의힘은 오는 6·3 선거에서 일정한 성과를 거둬야 하는 과제를 안고 있다. 내부 결속 강화, 통합된 메시지, 유능하고 신뢰할 수 있는 후보 공천, 지역 맞춤형 정책 개발, 기존 언론을 비롯한 유튜브 및 SNS 등 다양한 디지털 플랫폼을 활용한 배전의 노력이 수반돼야 할 시점이다.
