[브레이크뉴스=강동호 기자] 합천군청 홍보담당으로 근무하다 은퇴한 이후 본격적으로 사진 작업에 매진해 온 서정철 작가가 오랜 꿈이자 버킷리스트 1번으로 꼽아온 마다가스카르 사진 여행을 통해 완성한 결과물인 '神이 된 나무' 사진전이 오는 25일부터 3월2일까지 서울시 종로구 인사동길 35-6 마루아트센터 신관 1층 제1관에서 열린다.
서정철 작가는 마다가스카르 전역에 서 있는 바오밥나무를 렌즈에 담아 자연과 시간, 그리고 인간 존재에 대한 사유를 사진으로 풀어냈다.
마다가스카르의 바오밥은 수백 년에서 수천 년에 이르는 시간을 살아온 존재로, 현지에서는 신성한 나무이자 공동체의 정신적 지주로 여겨진다.
서 작가는 특히 마다가스카르에서도 오지 중의 오지에서 발견된, 5천 년의 시간을 견뎌온 ‘신이 된 나무’ 바오밥을 단순한 이국적 풍경이 아닌 인간보다 오래 살아온 하나의 ‘존재’로 바라본다.
작품 속 바오밥은 광활한 대지 위에 고요히 서 있으며, 빛과 그림자 속에서 마치 신화적 존재처럼 드러난다.
서정철 작가는 “은퇴 이후 맞이한 시간은 제 삶의 속도를 완전히 바꾸어 놓았다”며 “마다가스카르의 바오밥 앞에 서 있으면 인간의 시간이 얼마나 짧고 덧없는지 자연스럽게 깨닫게 된다”고 말했다.
이어 “이 전시는 여행의 기록이자 자연 앞에서 겸손해지는 한 인간의 고백”이라고 덧붙였다.
