세종시교육감 선거 출마를 예고한 원성수 전 국립공주대학교 총장이 교육 철학과 비전을 담은 저서 '세종다운 교육' 출판기념회를 열고 본격적인 행보에 나섰다.
원 전 총장은 7일 오후 세종시 반곡동 비오케이(BOK)아트센터에서 출판기념회를 겸한 명예퇴임식을 개최했다. 공주대에서 25년간 교수와 제7대 총장으로 재직한 그의 교육 인생을 마무리하는 자리였다.
행사에는 박수현 국회의원(더불어민주당, 공주·부여·청양), 이춘희 전 세종시장, 최원철 공주시장을 비롯해 지역 정·관계 인사와 교육계 관계자들이 대거 참석해 원 후보의 새로운 출발을 축하했다.
1부 명예퇴임식에서는 동료 교수와 제자들이 감사의 마음을 전하며 송사와 기념패 증정이 이어졌고, 가족들이 준비한 감사패 전달로 따뜻한 분위기를 더했다.

원성수 전 총장의 저서는 세종 교육의 현주소를 짚고 미래 교육의 방향을 구체적으로 제시하는 내용을 담고 있다.
'세종다운 교육' 1장은 세종 교육의 현실을 진단하고, 2장은 학력을 점수가 아닌 ‘적응력’과 ‘문해력’ 관점에서 새롭게 해석했다.

원성수 전 총장은 “이 책은 거창한 교육개혁 설계도가 아니라, 모든 아이가 함께 성장하는 공교육의 길을 이야기한 것”이라며 “청소년들이 겪는 어려움이 개인의 문제로만 비춰지지 않도록, 함께 미래를 설계하는 사회적 연대가 필요하다”고 말했다.
그는 총장 재임 시절 대학 운영의 공백 사태를 조기에 수습하고 혁신 기반을 마련했다는 평가를 받았다.
