이번 전시는 양 기관이 지난 1월 체결한 업무협약(MOU) 이후 선보이는 첫 협업 사례다. 대구시가 추진 중인 ‘글로벌 AX 선도도시’ 비전에 발맞춰, 국가 대표 연구중심대학인 DGIST의 첨단 AI 기술을 문화예술 콘텐츠에 직접 적용한 실질적 협력 모델이라는 점에서 주목된다.
전시의 핵심은 DGIST 전기전자컴퓨터공학과 임성훈 교수 연구팀이 개발한 최신 생성형 AI 모델이다. 연구팀에는 김동현·김종민·이경민·박지훈·최민우 박사과정생과 현승준 석사과정생이 참여했다. 해당 모델의 핵심 기술은 AI 분야 최고 권위 학술대회인 ‘CVPR 2025’에서 하이라이트(Highlight), ‘AAAI 2026’에서 구두 발표(Oral)로 각각 선정되며 기술적 우수성을 국제적으로 인정받았다.
연구팀은 이 기술을 활용해 혜원 신윤복의 국보급 명작 '미인도'를 렘브란트, 모네, 반 고흐 등 서양 미술 거장들의 화풍으로 재해석한 디지털 아트를 구현했다. 전통 회화와 생성형 AI가 결합한 새로운 형태의 융합 콘텐츠다.
관람객 체험 공간도 마련된다. 체험 존에서는 관람객의 모습을 즉석 촬영한 뒤 다양한 거장의 화풍으로 변환해 제공한다. 또한 신윤복 화풍으로 재해석된 서양 명화와 AI 기술로 생동감 있게 구현된 '미인도' 영상도 함께 공개돼, 관람객이 AI 기술을 직관적으로 이해할 수 있도록 구성했다.
이건우 DGIST 총장은 “이번 전시는 전통문화와 과학기술을 대표하는 두 기관의 만남이라는 점에서 의미가 크다”며 “우리 문화의 정수인 '미인도'와 첨단 AI 기술이 융합해 새로운 시너지를 창출하는 계기가 될 것”이라고 말했다.
전인건 대구간송미술관장은 “우리 문화유산의 아름다움을 AI로 재해석한 흥미로운 시도”라며 “전통과 미래가 만나 창의적 가능성을 보여주는 이번 협업을 통해 관람객들이 기술과 문화예술의 새로운 접점을 체험하길 바란다”고 밝혔다.
이번 전시는 대구간송미술관 전시실3에서 2월 14일부터 5월 31일까지 진행된다. 오는 7월에는 '미인도'를 상설로 감상할 수 있는 전시실도 정식 개관할 예정이다.

This exhibition marks the first collaboration between the two institutions since the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in January. In line with the Daegu Metropolitan City's vision of becoming a "Global AX Leading City," this practical collaboration directly applies DGIST's cutting-edge AI technology, a leading national research university, to cultural and artistic content, drawing attention.
The exhibition's core feature is the latest generative AI model developed by the research team of Professor Lim Seong-hoon of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at DGIST. The research team includes doctoral students Kim Dong-hyun, Kim Jong-min, Lee Kyung-min, Park Ji-hoon, and Choi Min-woo, and master's student Hyun Seung-jun. The model's core technology was recognized internationally for its technological excellence, being selected as a highlight at CVPR 2025, the most prestigious academic conference in the field of AI, and as an oral presentation at AAAI 2026.
Using this technology, the research team created a digital art piece that reinterpreted Hyewon Shin Yun-bok's national treasure, "Portrait of a Beauty," in the styles of Western masters such as Rembrandt, Monet, and van Gogh. This is a new form of convergence content that combines traditional painting and generative AI.
A visitor experience zone will also be provided. Visitors will be able to take an instant photo of themselves and then transform it into the styles of various masters. Furthermore, a video of Western masterpieces reinterpreted in Shin Yun-bok's style and "Portrait of a Beauty" vividly rendered using AI technology will be presented, allowing visitors to intuitively understand the AI technology.
DGIST President Lee Kun-woo said, "This exhibition is significant in that it represents the meeting of two institutions representing traditional culture and science and technology. The convergence of 'Portrait of a Beauty,' the essence of our culture, and cutting-edge AI technology will create new synergies."

The exhibition will run from February 14 to May 31 in Exhibition Hall 3 of the Daegu Gansong Art Museum. A permanent exhibition hall dedicated to 'Portrait of a Beauty' is scheduled to officially open in July.
