【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=김재원 경상북도지사 출마예정자가 지난 26일 구미를 찾아 시민들과 호흡을 맞추며, 지역의 현재와 역사를 직접 살폈다.
이날 김 최고위원은 구미시 일원에서 열린 ‘2026 구미 박정희 마라톤 대회’에 참가해 시민들과 함께 코스를 달렸다. 대회가 열리는 동안 운영 상황을 꼼꼼하게 점검하면서 참가자들을 격려했고, 무엇보다 안전한 진행을 강조했다. 행사장에는 전국에서 모인 마라토너와 지역 주민들이 어우러져 활기가 넘쳤다.
그는 “구미는 대한민국 산업화의 상징적인 도시”라고 강조하며, 박정희 전 대통령의 도전정신과 개척정신을 언급했다. 또 “이런 정신이 여전히 지역 발전의 큰 자산”이라며 “생활체육 활성화를 통해 시민이 하나가 되고, 지역 경제에도 활력을 불어넣겠다”고 밝혔다. 경북 전역에 생활체육 인프라를 더 넓히겠다는 계획도 내비쳤다.
마라톤 후에는 구미 복합스포츠센터에서 열린 제107주년 3·1절 기념식에 참석했다. 김 최고위원은 시민들과 함께 헌화하고 기념행사에도 참여했다.
그는 “3·1운동의 자주독립 정신은 대한민국 발전의 뿌리”라고 힘주어 말하며, “선열들의 희생 위에 세워진 대한민국을 더 단단하게 만드는 게 바로 오늘을 살아가는 우리 모두의 책무”라고 목소리를 높였다. 이어 ‘희망의 경북, 힘 있는 경북’을 반드시 실현하겠다는 뜻을 분명하게 드러냈다.
