【브레이크뉴스 구미】이성현 기자=구미시가 방위산업 인공지능(AI) 분야 인재양성을 위한 국비 71억 원을 확보했다. 시는 교육부가 추진하는 ‘첨단산업 인재양성 부트캠프’ 사업에 국립금오공과대학교가 인공지능(방산AI) 분야 주관 대학으로 최종 선정됐다고 밝혔다.

이번 사업을 통해 5년간 700여 명의 방산AI 분야 실무형 인재를 양성, 구미국가산업단지에 안정적인 전문 인력 공급 기반을 구축한다는 계획이다.
‘첨단산업 인재양성 부트캠프’는 대학과 기업이 공동으로 교육과정을 설계·운영하는 1년 이내 단기 집중 교육 프로그램이다. 현장 수요에 부합하는 실무 역량을 갖춘 인재를 양성하고, 수료 후 취업까지 연계하는 것이 핵심이다.
2026년에는 AI 분야에서 전국 37개 대학이 선정됐으며, 대구·경북권에서는 금오공대를 포함해 6개 대학이 이름을 올렸다.
금오공대가 주관하는 방산AI 부트캠프에는 한화시스템, LIG넥스원, 피엔티 등 20여 개 기업이 참여한다. 사업은 2026년부터 5년간 추진되며, 총사업비는 73억7,500만 원이다. 이 가운데 국비 71억2,500만 원, 도비 7,500만 원, 시비 1억7,500만 원이 투입된다.
전자공학과를 주관 학과로 산업계 전문가 참여 수업, 산학 공동 프로젝트, 현장 맞춤형 실무 교육, 이수자 취업 연계 지원체계 구축 등을 체계적으로 운영할 예정이다. 단순 교육을 넘어 기업이 직접 참여하는 산학협력형 인재양성 모델을 구현하는 것이 특징이다.
김장호 구미시장은 “이번 국립금오공과대학교 부트캠프 사업 선정으로 방산AI 분야 인재를 양성할 수 있는 대학-기업-지자체 협력 체계가 본격 가동된다”며 “기업의 인력난을 완화하고 청년 인재의 지역 정착 기반을 강화하는 전환점이 될 것”이라고 밝혔다.
구미시는 이번 사업을 통해 구미산단 내 방산AI 분야 인력 수급 불균형 해소는 물론, 기업과 공동으로 진행하는 프로젝트를 통해 수료생의 지역 방산기업 취업 확대에도 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

Thirty-seven universities nationwide have been selected for the 2026 AI program, with six universities from the Daegu and Gyeongbuk region, including Kumoh National Institute of Technology, making the list.
Hosted by Kumoh National Institute of Technology, the Defense AI Bootcamp will feature participation from approximately 20 companies, including Hanwha Systems, LIG Nex1, and PNT. The program will run for five years, beginning in 2026, with a total budget of 7.375 billion won. This will include 7.125 billion won from the national government, 75 million won from the provincial government, and 175 million won from the city.
With the Department of Electronic Engineering as the lead department, the program will systematically operate programs that include classes with industry experts, industry-academia joint projects, customized practical training, and the establishment of a support system for graduates seeking employment. Beyond mere education, the program will implement a collaborative industry-academia talent development model with direct corporate involvement.
Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, "With the selection of Kumoh National Institute of Technology for the boot camp program, a cooperative system among universities, companies, and local governments to cultivate talent in the defense AI field will be fully operational. This will be a turning point in alleviating the workforce shortage in companies and strengthening the foundation for young talent to settle in the region."
Gumi City expects this project to not only address the imbalance in the supply and demand of defense AI talent within the Gumi Industrial Complex, but also contribute to increasing the employment opportunities of graduates at local defense companies through joint projects with companies.
