경북도, 칠곡경북대병원에 양성자치료센터 건립 추진

경상북도는 5일 보건복지부가 권역책임의료기관을 대상으로 중환자·중증질환 치료시설 확충과 장비비 지원을 결정함에 따라, 도내 권역책임의료기관인 칠곡경북대학교병원에 양성자치료센터를 구축할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

권역책임의료기관은 지역 내 고난도 필수의료를 제공하고 권역 내 의료기관 협력체계를 기획·조정하는 핵심 의료기관으로, 중증질환 치료 역량을 강화하는 중추적 역할을 맡고 있다.

양성자치료센터는 지하 2층, 지상 4층 규모로 연면적 7,000㎡의 전문 암 치료시설로 조성되며 치료와 연구 기능을 함께 갖춘 첨단 의료 인프라로 구축된다. 사업 기간은 2026년부터 2029년까지이며 총 사업비는 1,494억 원이 투입된다. 이 가운데 국·도비 300억 원이 지원되며 올해는 국·도비 120억 원과 자부담 30억 원을 포함한 150억 원이 편성됐다.

양성자 치료는 암 조직을 정밀하게 타격하면서 정상 조직 손상을 최소화하는 방사선 치료 방식으로, 소아암과 두경부암 등 고난도 암 치료에 효과적인 것으로 알려져 있다. 특히 고정밀 방사선 치료 분야에서 최첨단 기술로 주목받고 있다.

아울러 칠곡경북대학교병원은 도내 지역책임의료기관인 포항의료원, 동국대학교경주병원, 안동의료원, 김천의료원, 영주적십자병원, 상주적십자병원을 중심으로 의료기관 간 협력 네트워크를 강화해 응급·중증 환자가 골든타임 내 최종 치료에 도달할 수 있도록 전원·이송·진료 협력 체계를 고도화할 계획이다.

이철우 경상북도지사는 “이번 지원은 경북도민이 거주지에서 중증·고난도 치료까지 받을 수 있는 지역 의료체계를 구축하는 데 의미가 있다”며 “권역·지역책임의료기관 간 협력을 기반으로 전원·이송·진료 연계를 강화해 ‘지역에서 최종 치료까지’ 이어지는 지역완결형 필수의료 체계가 안정적으로 운영될 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
