오는 6·3 전국동시지방선거에서 춘천시장 도전에 나선 국민의힘 변지량 예비후보가 8일 자신의 페이스북을 통해 "왜 다시 도전하는가"라는 자문을 던지며 "7전8기의 마음으로 춘천을 바꾸기 위해서"라는 굳은 의지를 표명했다.
변 예비후보는 "정치는 결코 쉬운 길이 아니다"며 "선거는 냉정하고 결과는 분명하다"고 소회했다. 이어 "많은 사람이 한 번의 실패를 경험하면 정치의 길을 떠난다"며 "그러나 저는 포기하지 않았다"고 밝혔다. 그러면서 "아니, 포기할 수 없었다"며 "왜냐하면 제가 도전하는 이유는 개인의 명예나 권력을 위한 것이 아니라 춘천의 미래이기 때문이다"고 분명히 했다.
아울러 "저는 오랜 시간 춘천을 지켜보며 한 가지 생각을 해왔다"며 "'춘천은 더 발전할 수 있는 도시인데 왜 이 잠재력을 제대로 살리지 못하고 있을까'"라는 안타까운 심경을 드러냈다.
