시는 지난해 11월 첨단 드론 운용사인 ㈜아이온, ㈜에코로보텍 및 국내 물류 표준화 기업 한국컨테이너풀(주)과 협약을 체결했으며, 12월 충주 지식산업센터 개소식에서는 드론 커피 배송을 시연하는 등 미래 도심항공교통 중심지로 도약하기 위한 준비를 이어왔다.
시는 이번 사업을 통해 드론 물류배송 서비스를 실증할 계획이다.
중앙탑공원 일원에서는 커피 등 물품 배송과 쓰레기 수거를, 살미면 일원에서는 사회적 약자 대상 필요 물품 배송을 실증한다.
