해마다 3월의 넷째 주 금요일은 2016년부터 법정기념일로 지정된 ‘서해수호의 날’이다. 2026년 3월 27일은 서해수호의 날 11주년이 되는 아주 뜻 깊은 날이다.

3월 27일(금) 10시 30분 국립대전현충원에서 "우리의 바다 서해, 평화와 번영으로"를 주제로 열린 제11회 서해수호의 날 기념식에는 서해 수호 영웅 유가족과 참전 장병을 비롯해 격렬비열도 항로표지관리소근무자, 서해5도 주민, 서해5도 특별경비단, 서해랑길 지킴이, 서해어업관리단 근무자 등 1천500여 명이 참석한 가운데에 국민의례, 헌화·분향, 서해수호 55영웅 다시 부르기, 기념사, 기념공연, 기념 비행 순으로 50분간 개최되었다,
이재명 대통령은 먼저 천안함 용사 묘역을 찾아 참배하고, ‘제11회 서해수호의 날 기념식’에 참석해 “고귀한 희생을 마다하지 않았던 55인의 서해 수호 영웅들에게, 머리 숙여 깊은 경의와 추모의 마음을 전한다”며 “반드시 기억하고, 기록하고, 합당하게 예우하겠다”고 했다.
