경기도의회 건설교통위원회 서성란 의원(국민의힘, 의왕2)이 의왕정음학교를 찾아 통학안전과 특수교육 여건 개선 필요성을 강조했다.
서 의원은 지난달 30일 의왕정음학교에서 군포의왕교육지원청 및 학교 관계자들과 정담회를 갖고 통학환경과 교육여건 등 주요 현안을 점검했다.
이날 간담회에서는 대형 셔틀버스 회차 문제로 인한 통학 안전 문제가 집중 논의됐다. 현재 학교 내 회차 공간이 충분하지 않아 학생 승하차 안전과 보행 동선 전반의 개선 필요성이 제기됐다.
서성란 의원은 “특수학교 통학안전은 학생과 학부모의 일상과 직결되는 기본 여건”이라며 “도로 환경과 회차 공간, 보행 동선을 종합적으로 검토해 안전한 통학환경을 마련해야 한다”고 밝혔다.
이어 학급 수 증가에 따른 교육여건 문제도 주요 과제로 언급됐다. 인근 지역 학생까지 통학하는 특성상 교육 수요는 늘고 있지만 현장 인력이 부족하다는 의견이 제기됐다.
서 의원은 “특수교육은 단순한 학생 수가 아닌 지원의 밀도와 전문성이 중요한 분야”라며 “현장 수요 변화를 반영한 인력과 지원 체계에 대한 다각적인 검토가 필요하다”고 말했다.
이와 함께 원예체험 등 교육활동 공간 보완 방안과 학교 주변 산업단지 조성에 따른 중장기 대응 필요성도 논의됐다.
서성란 의원은 “교육환경은 사후 대응이 아닌 사전 준비가 중요하다”며 “통학로와 교육여건, 주변 개발 변화까지 함께 고려해 관계기관과 지속적으로 점검해 나가겠다”고 강조했다.

Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member Seo Seong-ran (People Power Party, Uiwang 2), a member of the Construction and Transportation Committee, visited Uiwang Jeongeum School and emphasized the need to improve commuting safety and special education conditions.
On the 30th of last month, Assembly member Seo held a meeting with officials from the Gunpo-Uiwang Office of Education and the school at Uiwang Jeongeum School to inspect key pending issues, including the commuting environment and educational conditions.
During the meeting, commuting safety issues stemming from the problem of large shuttle buses turning around were discussed in detail. It was raised that the current lack of sufficient turning space within the school premises necessitates improvements to student boarding and alighting safety and overall pedestrian pathways.
Assembly member Seo stated, “Commuting safety for special schools is a fundamental condition directly linked to the daily lives of students and parents,” adding, “We must establish a safe commuting environment by comprehensively reviewing road conditions, turning spaces, and pedestrian pathways.” Following this, issues regarding educational conditions resulting from the increase in the number of classes were also mentioned as a major challenge. It was noted that while educational demand is rising due to the nature of the school, where students from nearby areas commute, there is a shortage of on-site personnel.
Representative Seo stated, "Special education is a field where the density of support and expertise are crucial, rather than simply the number of students," adding, "A multifaceted review of personnel and support systems is necessary to reflect changes in on-site demand."
Along with this, measures to supplement educational activity spaces, such as horticultural experiences, and the need for mid-to-long-term responses regarding the development of industrial complexes near schools were also discussed.
Representative Seo Seong-ran emphasized, "Preparation is more important for the educational environment than reactive responses," stating, "We will continuously monitor the situation with relevant agencies, taking into account commuting routes, educational conditions, and changes in surrounding development."
