[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 국민의힘 박형준 부산시장 예비후보가 부산시장 경선 선거운동을 마무리하며 보수 진영의 총결집을 촉구했다.
박 예비후보는 8일 부산시의회 브리핑룸에서 기자회견을 열고 “부산의 미래이자 대한민국 민주주의를 지키기 위한 마지막 전선”이라고 이번 선거를 규정했다. 그는 “부산에서부터 나라를 지키자”는 강한 메시지를 내세워 지지층 결속에 나섰다.
박 예비후보는 “이번 부산시장 선거는 부산의 미래를 가르는 중대한 선거”라며 “부산이 행복한 글로벌 도시로 힘차게 나아갈 것인지, 아니면 여기서 멈출 것인지를 결정하는 선거가 될 것”이라고 강조했다. 그는 “이번 선거는 단지 부산의 선택에 그치지 않는다. 대한민국의 미래도 걸려 있다”고 역설했다.
이어 “현 민주당 정권은 이미 입법부와 행정부를 장악했고, 전례 없는 사법 개혁을 통해 사법부와 대법원까지 거머쥐었다”며 “지방정부까지 가져간다면 대한민국의 모든 권력이 독점될 것”이라고 경고했다. 그는 “절대 권력은 절대 부패한다. 삼권분립과 법치가 심각하게 훼손됐고, 대통령의 사법 리스크를 해소하기 위해 위인설법마저 서슴지 않는다”고 비판했다.
박 예비후보는 “정적들에게만 사법의 칼날이 향하는 선택적 정의가 횡행하고 있다”며 “검찰에게서 빼앗은 권력을 행정부 산하 경찰에 집중시키고, 그 정점에 청와대를 올려놓았다”고 지적했다. 그는 “형사사법 제도가 무너지는 동안 절도와 사기, 살인과 마약 범죄는 확산되고, 평범한 시민들은 사법 정의의 붕괴 속에 고통받고 있다”고 우려했다.
또한 “이것은 정치의 문제가 아니라 국민의 일상, 민생의 문제”라며 “민주당이 지방정부마저 장악한다면 대한민국은 사실상 일당이 지배하는 국가로 전락할 것”이라고 단언했다. 그는 “겉은 민주, 속은 독재가 국민 위에 군림하는 현실을 어떤 일이 있어도 막아야 한다”고 강조했다.
박 예비후보는 국민의힘 내부 문제에 대해서도 책임을 언급했다. 그는 “제1야당으로서 국민의 기대에 부응하지 못하고 지리멸렬한 모습을 보였다”며 “국민과 당원들이 느끼는 실망과 분노는 당연하다”고 반성했다. 이어 “보수 통합에 관심과 노력을 기울여 왔던 광역단체장으로서 무거운 책임을 통감한다”고 덧붙였다.
그는 “그러나 이제는 실망과 분노 속에 머물러서는 안 된다”며 “그 에너지를 나라를 지키는 방향으로 돌려달라. 보수를 버리면 나라를 버리는 것이고, 우리는 나라를 버릴 수 없다”고 호소했다. 또 “무엇보다 먼저 보수가 하나 되어야 한다. 내부 갈등과 분열을 넘어 국가와 역사에 대한 책임과 사명감으로 다시 뭉쳐야 한다”고 촉구했다.
박 예비후보는 “낙동강 전선을 사수하는 부산시장으로서 다시 한번 호소한다. 당원 동지 여러분, 하나가 되어 달라. 부산에서부터 시작하자. 나라의 방파제가 되어 달라”고 거듭 호소했다. 그는 “부산은 대한민국 민주주의가 버틸 수 있는 마지막 방파제”라며 “민주의 가면을 쓴 독재의 물결을 막을 곳은 바로 부산”이라고 했다.
마지막으로 그는 “부산이 지켜내면 대한민국은 다시 설 수 있다”며 “부산 시민 여러분, 민주주의가 아직 살아 있음을 증언하는 마지막 증인이 되어 달라. 권력이 아니라 국민이 주인이라는 것을 보여주고, 부산을 그리고 대한민국을 함께 지켜달라”고 간절히 호소했다.

People Power Party (PPP) Busan mayoral candidate Park Hyung‑joon called for conservative unity as he wrapped up his campaign for the party’s primary election. At a press conference held at the Busan City Council briefing room on April 8, Park described the upcoming election as “the final frontline to safeguard both Busan’s future and the democracy of the Republic of Korea.” With the slogan “Let’s defend the nation starting from Busan,” he urged supporters to rally behind his campaign.
Park stated that the Busan mayoral election is “a crucial turning point that will determine whether Busan advances as a vibrant global city or stops in its tracks,” adding that “this election goes beyond Busan—it is also about the future of the entire country.”
Criticizing the current Democratic Party administration, he said, “The ruling party has already seized control of the legislative and executive branches and, through unprecedented judicial reforms, has even placed the judiciary and the Supreme Court under its influence. If they take over local governments as well, all power in the Republic of Korea will be monopolized.” He warned, “Absolute power absolutely corrupts. The separation of powers and the rule of law are already seriously undermined, and even the principle of law is being bent to shield the president’s judicial risks.”
Park continued, “Selective justice now prevails, as the sword of law strikes only political opponents. The government has stripped the prosecution of its authority, concentrated power in the police under the administration, and placed the presidential office at the top of that pyramid.” He argued that “while the criminal justice system is collapsing, crimes such as theft, fraud, murder, and drug offenses are rising, leaving ordinary citizens suffering under the breakdown of judicial fairness.”
“This is not merely a political problem,” he said. “It is an issue that affects people’s daily lives and livelihoods. If the Democratic Party also captures local governments, South Korea will effectively become a one‑party state. A dictatorship disguised as democracy will dominate the people. We must never allow that to happen.”
Acknowledging his own party’s challenges, Park said, “As the main opposition, the People Power Party has failed to meet public expectations and has appeared divided and directionless. The disappointment and frustration of our members and citizens are entirely understandable.” He added, “As a metropolitan leader who has always pursued conservative unity, I feel a heavy sense of responsibility.”
“Now is not the time to dwell on disappointment or anger,” he emphasized. “Let us turn that energy toward defending our country. Abandoning conservatism means abandoning our nation—and we cannot do that. What we need most right now is unity. Overcome internal conflicts and divisions, and come together again with a sense of responsibility and duty to our nation and history.”
Asserting his commitment, Park said, “As the mayor who will defend the Nakdong River front line, I once again appeal to all party members—stand together. Let us begin in Busan. Be the breakwater that protects our nation.” He stressed, “Busan is the last bulwark holding up Korean democracy, the place where the tide of disguised authoritarianism must be stopped.”
Concluding his remarks, Park declared, “If Busan stands firm, Korea will rise again. Citizens of Busan, become the last witnesses proving that democracy is still alive. Show that power belongs to the people, not the politicians. Protect Busan—and protect our nation together.”
