The Musical category has been newly established in 2026, a significant year marking the 60th anniversary of Korean musicals. By highlighting the emotional impact and artistic value of the musical stage, the Baeksang Arts Awards plans to evolve and leap forward as a true comprehensive arts award encompassing all stages of popular culture and arts.
The prestigious inaugural Best Musical Award in the Baeksang Arts Awards Musical category is presented to a work—whether original or licensed (non-replica)—that has achieved the most outstanding results in areas such as popularity, artistic merit, and quality, and is evaluated as having made a significant contribution to the musical field. The candidates are 'Long, Long Night', 'Laika', 'Dreamland', 'Red Earth_Reins and' The nominees are 'The History of the Saddle' and 'The Man in Hanbok'.
The Creative Award presents a trophy to the creator of original and licensed (non-replica) musicals who has demonstrated outstanding achievements in creativity and originality. Choreographer Seo Byung-gu ('Evita'), Director Oh Ru-pina ('The Mad Hatter'), Composer Oh Sang-jun ('Dreamland of Peach Blossoms'), Composer Lee Sun-young ('Laika'), and Playwright Han Ah-reum ('Red Earth: The History of the Reins and Saddle') have been named as nominees.
The Acting Award is presented to the actor who demonstrates the most outstanding performance among all original and licensed musical cast members, regardless of gender. Kim Jun-su ('Beetlejuice'), Min Kyung-ah ('The Red Book'), Park Eun-tae ('The Man in Hanbok'), Yuria ('Evita'), and Hong Kwang-ho ('Moulin Rouge!') have been nominated, foreshadowing a fierce competition for the Acting Award trophy and the honor of being the first winner.
Meanwhile, the '62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci,' the only comprehensive arts awards ceremony in Korea encompassing broadcasting, film, theater, and musicals, will be held on May 8 at 7:50 PM at Coex Hall D in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Italian luxury brand Gucci is participating as a partner for the fourth consecutive year, and the event will be broadcast live simultaneously on JTBC, JTBC2, and JTBC4.
