<브레이크뉴스 가평 = 이용하 기자> 가평군은 지난 21일 가평군보훈회관 회의실에서 ‘대한민국고엽제전우회 가평군지회 창립 제17주년 기념식’을 성황리에 개최했다고 밝혔다.
이날 행사에는 서태원 가평군수를 대신해 조두영 행정안전국장, 김경수 가평군의회 의장과 군의원, 박용주 경기북부보훈지청장, 하태근 가평군재향군인회 회장, 조완수 전임 회장을 비롯한 보훈단체장과 고엽제전우회 회원 및 가족 등 60여 명이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.

최중호 가평군지회장은 기념사를 통해 “고엽제전우회는 월남전에 참전해 자유와 평화를 위해 헌신한 전우들의 숭고한 희생 위에 서 있다”며 “현재 고령과 질병, 경제적 어려움 속에서 또 다른 싸움을 이어가고 있는 전우들을 위해 실질적인 지원과 사회적 관심이 절실하다”고 호소했다.
조두영 행정안전국장은 축사에서 “고엽제전우회가 지역사회와 함께하는 든든한 동반자로서 역할을 다해온 데 깊이 감사드린다”며 “가평군에서도 국가를 위한 희생과 헌신에 걸맞은 예우와 지원이 이뤄질 수 있도록 책임감을 가지고 세심히 살피겠다”고 화답했다.
한편, 대한민국고엽제전우회 가평군지회는 지난 2010년 4월 21일 창립되어 현재 약 130명의 회원이 지역 사회에서 활발하게 활동하고 있다.
