브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 정세균 국무총리는 5일 양부모의 학대로 숨진 16개월된 입양아동 '정인이 사건'에 대해 "짧았던 삶 내내 가정과 국가 그 어디로부터도 보호받지 못하고 고통 속에 세상을 떠난 “정인이”를 생각하면 국민의 한 사람으로서 정말 가슴이 아프다"고 밝혔다.
정 총리는 이날 오전 정부서울청사에서 아동학대 대응 긴급 관계장관회의를 개최하고 "충격적인 아동학대 범죄가 근절되지 않고 있어 총리로서 송구스럽고 안타깝게 생각한다"며 이같이 말했다.
정 총리는 "정부는 지난해 7월, 아동·청소년 학대 방지 대책을 마련하여 총력을 다해 추진하고 있다"며 "학대 우려가 큰 아이는 국가가 개입해 즉시 분리할 수 있도록 관련 법을 개정했고 올해 3월말부터 시행한다"고 설명했다.
이어 "아울러, 아동보호전문기관이 수행하는 상담, 교육 및 치료 등의 지원을 정당한 사유 없이 거부하는 보호자에게 과태료를 부과하는 법 규정도 신설했다"며 "그러나 이러한 대책에도 불구하고 현장에서 아동학대를 뿌리 뽑기 위해서는 보완할 점이 아직 많다"고 지적했다.
정 총리는 또한 "아동학대 가해자를 강력하게 처벌하기 위해 양형기준 상향을 법원에 요청하고, 입양 절차 전반에 걸쳐 공적 책임을 한층 강화하는 방안을 검토할 필요가 있다"면서 "우리 아이들이 학대로부터 벗어나, 안전하고 건강하게 커가는 사회를 만들 수 있도록 지혜를 모아달라"고 당부했다.
