강금식 이용균씨가 공저한 “4차산업혁명 시대의 통계학 개론”의 개정판이 출간(도서출판 오래)됐다.
공동 저자인 강금식씨는 서문에서 “개정판을 쓰고 있는 동안 코로나 바이러스 감염증(COVID-19)은 온 세상에 창궐하여 경제를 마비시키고 우리의 생활양식을 바꾸어 놓고 있다. 경제성장률은 곤두박질치고, 기업이 도산하고, 일자리가 사라지고 우리의 삶은 더욱 팍팍해지고 있다”고 전제하고 “지금 4차 산업혁명(fourth industrial revolution)이 한창 진행되고 있다. 코로나-19 이후 코로나로 인하여 4차 산업혁명에 엄청난 큰 변화가 몰아칠 것으로 예상된다. 코로나-19는 통계학에 직접적 영향을 미치지는 않지만 4차 산업혁명은 인공지능(artificial intelligence：AI)을 통해서 통계학에 영향을 미친다. 4차 산업혁명의 기본 인프라는 인공지능과 빅데이터(big data)이다. 오늘날 정보기술 기기의 발달로 빅데이터는 폭발적으로 쏟아져 나오고 있다. 빅데이터 분석을 통해 얻는 정보와 통찰력은 기업경영의 의사결정에 엄청난 가치(value)를 제공함으로써 국가든 기업이든 빅데이터를 지배하는 자가 승리자가 되고 있다”고 강조했다.
이어 “ 빅데이터를 분석하는 비즈니스 분석론(business analytics)이나 데이터 마이닝(data mining)이라는 새로운 분야가 각광을 받고 있는 것이다. 전통적인 통계이론이 비즈니스 분석론이나 데이터 마이닝의 근간을 이루기는 하지만 이들 분야 사이에는 차이점도 있다. 전통적 통계학에서는 시간과 비용 등을 감안하여 스몰 데이터(small data)를 사용하여 가설검정이나 추정 등을 실시하여 원하는 목적을 달성하려 한다. 그러나 데이터 마이닝에서는 빅데이터를 분석해서 최대의 목적을 달성하고자 한다. 오늘날 빅데이터를 수집 · 분석 · 저장하는데 필요한 비용은 기술의 발달로 큰 문제가 되지 않고 있다. 본 개정판에서는 비즈니스 분석론이나 데이터 마이닝의 개념 정도는 알아둘 필요가 있다고 생각되어 포함하였다. 이 책을 공부한 이후에 비즈니스 분석론과 데이터 마이닝을 공부하는 것이 순서일 것”이라고 조언했다.
