브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 더불어민주당 대선후보는 18일 김대중 전 대통령(DJ)의 정치적 고향인 전남 목포를 찾아, 윤석열 국민의힘 후보와 DJ를 비교하며 지지를 호소했다.
이재명 후보는 이날 목포 평화광장에서 가진 거리 유세에서 "김대준 전 대통령께서는 평생 핍박당하면서도 한 번도 정치보복을 입에 올린 일이 없고, 통합의 정신을 실천했다"며 "그런데 어떻게 (윤석열) 대통령 후보는 선거운동하면서 정치보복을 공언할 수가 있느냐"고 비판했다.
이 후보는 "호남인들은 위대하다. 대한민국 민주주의를 만들어냈고, 군사독재를 이겨냈다"며 "존경하는 김대중 대통령을 대한민국의 세계적 지도자로 키워준 분들이 바로 목포시민들 아니냐. 김대중 대통령은 평생 민주주의와 남북의 화해, 평화를 위해 애썼고 처음으로 정상회담을 하며 평화의 물길을 열었다"고 치켜세웠다.
이어 그는 "전 세계에서 사람들을 뒷조사하고 죄를 찾아내 벌주던 검찰총장이 갑자기 대통령 된 사례가 있느냐"며 "정치보복을 공언하고 검찰에게 무한권력을 주겠다는 민주공화국이 아닌 검찰왕국을 만들어 나라를 지배할 생각을 하느냐"고 꼬집었다.

이 후보는 다시 DJ의 평화정신을 언급하며 "미국에선 윤석열 후보가 당선될 경우 한반도에 군사적 위기가 올 수 있다고 걱정하고 있다. 한반도의 전쟁위기가 고조되고 있다는 이야기가 나온다"며 "(윤석열 후보는) 개발 중인 L-SAM이 3년이면 실전배치되는데 8년씩이나 걸리는 사드를 1조5000억원 들여 사와서 대체 어디에 설치하겠다는 거냐. 국내 방위산업체를 완전히 망가뜨리고, 쓸데없는 국제분쟁으로 관광산업이 확 죽을 것"이라고 주장했다.

이재명 후보는 이날 전남 순천 유세에서도 "민주당의 뿌리는 바로 호남"이라며 "새로운 나라, 민주주의가 활짝 피는 나라, 인권과 평등이 그리고 평화가 보장되는 김대중 대통령이 꿈꾼 세상을 반드시 완성하겠다. 이번 대선은 이재명을 뽑느냐, 윤석열을 뽑느냐가 아니라 내 미래를 어떻게 결정할 건지를 결정하는 선거"라며 지지를 호소했다.
한편 이날 호남 유세에서는 이낙연 총괄선대위원장도 일정 대부분을 동행하며 유세를 지원했다.
