불교계도 경북 울진과 강원 삼척 등 산불 피해복구에 힘을 보탰다.
희망브리지 전국재해구호협회(회장 송필호)는 현지사 영산불교대학(학장 일도스님) 학생들이 경북 울진과 강원 삼척 등지의 산불 피해복구와 이재민 지원을 위한 성금 1억180만원을 전해왔다고 8일 밝혔다.
현지사 영산불교대학 관계자는 “이웃이 힘들 때 불자들이 나서서 돕는 것은 부처님 가르침을 실천하는 일”이라며 “많은 학생 불자들이 동참해줘서 고맙고, 하루빨리 불이 진화돼 이재민분들이 일상으로 돌아갈 수 있기를 바란다”고 말했다. 학생대표 변치호 불자는 “어려움과 실의에 빠진 분들께 위로의 말을 전하며, 이번 기부가 조금이나마 보탬이 되면 좋겠다”고 말했다.
강원 춘천시에 위치한 현지사는 계율을 청정히 지키는 것을 으뜸으로 하고 염불 수행을 종지로 하는 불교종단이다. 국내를 비롯해 일본에 분원을 두고 있고, 4년 교육과정으로 운영하는 부설기관 영산불교대학은 2010년 개원해 2022년 현재 1000여명이 공부하고 있다.
2010년 아이티 지진 피해에 1억원, 2017년 포항 지진에 성금 2억750만원을 기탁하는 등 사찰로는 이례적으로 국내외 재난에 대응하고 있다.
희망브리지는 현지사 영산불교대학 기부금으로 임시주거시설, 생필품, 의류 등을 이재민에게 지원할 계획이다.
