살아남으려면, 이 세상에서 하나뿐인 그 무엇? 서울 청계천 연등 밝히기를 지난 15년간 계속해온 김석두 대표를 만나봤습니다.
올해 부처님 오신 날(불탄절)은 5월 8일입니다. 많고 다양한 불탄절 행사가 준비되고 있을 것입니다. 필자는 1970년대 말, 불교 조계종-태고종-천태종 등의 종단을 출입했던 기자였었습니다. 이때 불교계를 깊이 접했었습니다.
초파일, 부처님 오신 날(부처님 탄신 기념일)이 되면, 연등의 불을 밝힙니다. 부처님이 어두운 세상을 밝게 하려 이 세상에 '나투셨다(현현하셨다)'는 의미가 부여 됩니다.
부처님 오신 날(부처님 탄강일)이 되면, 한국 불교에서 세계적으로 유명한 '연등 밝히기' 행사가 있어왔습니다. 필자의 지인이신 김석두 동강이엔씨(주) 대표는 청계천에 고급연등을 설치하고 불을 밝힙니다. 올해까지 15년째를 지속하고 있습니다.

올해는 4월26일부터 5월10일까지, 오후 6시부터 밤 12시까지 불을 밝힙니다. 청계천, 시냇물 흐름 위에 설치된 갖가지 조형물들에 조명등이 켜집니다. 볼수록, 장엄합니다. 청계천 연등 밝히기 행사는 세계적으로 유명한 행사로 자리를 잡았습니다.
