브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 권성동 국민의힘 당 대표 직무대행 및 원내대표는 20일 대통령실 사적 채용 논란과 관련 "최근 대통령실 채용과 관련한 저의 발언에 대해 송구하다는 말씀을 드린다"고 밝혔다.
권성동 직무대행은 이날 자신의 페이스북을 통해 "특히, 청년 여러분께 상처를 주었다면 사과드린다"며 이같이 말했다.
지난 15일 권 직무대행은 대통령실 시민사회수석실 9급 행정요원으로 채용된 강릉시 선관위원 우모씨의 아들과 관련해 "7급에 넣은줄 알았는데 9급에 넣었더라. 내가 미안하더라. 최저임금 받고 서울에서 어떻게 사냐 강릉 촌놈이"라고 말해 '사적채용' 논란이 불거졌다.
그는 "소위 '사적 채용' 논란에 대해 국민께 제대로 설명드리는 것이 우선이었음에도 저의 표현으로 논란이 커진 것은 전적으로 저의 불찰"이라며 "초심으로 경청하겠다. 설명이 부족했던 부분은 끊임없이 말씀드리겠다. 앞으로 국민의 우려가 없도록 노력하겠다"고 해명했다.
이어 그는 대통령실의 채용은 일반 공무원 채용과 성격이 다르다고 강조하며 "이들은 선출된 공직자와 함께 운명을 같이 하고 임기가 보장되지 않는다. 대통령실뿐 아니라, 전국의 지방자치단체장, 국회의원실의 별정직에게 모두 해당되는 일"이라고 말했다.
권 직무대행은 "윤석열 대통령의 선거를 도우면서 캠프 곳곳에서 묵묵히 자기 역할을 하는 청년들을 많이 봤다"면서 "이러한 청년들이 역대 모든 정부의 별정직 채용 관례와 현행 법령에 따른 절차를 거쳐, 각 부서의 실무자 직급에 임용됐다"고 설명했다.
그러면서 "청년들의 생각을 잘 이해 못했던 기성세대들을 내부에서 끊임없이 설득한 것도, 선거 캠페인을 변화시켜 젊은 세대의 지지를 얻게 한 것도, 이름 없는 청년 실무자들의 노력 덕분"이라며 능력있는 인사가 대통령실에 채용됐음을 강조했다.
한편 대통령실 관계자는 이날 권 직무대행의 사과에 대해 "대통령실과 논의된 건 아니다"라고 선을 그으며 "당 원내대표가 입장을 발표할 때 항상 논의하는 건 아니다. 아마 권성동 원내대표가 당초 하려던 말이 몇몇 표현 때문에 와전된 점, 또 그 과정에서 청년들의 마음을 아프게 한 점들을 얘기한 것으로 그렇게 이해한다"고 말했다.
