윤석열 대통령과 메시지를 주고받던 권성동 국민의힘 당 대표 직무대행 겸 원내대표의 휴대전화 화면이 보도되며 논란이 불거지고 있다.
앞서 26일 오후4시경 국회 본회의장에서 경제분야 대정부 질문이 진행되고 있던 당시 권성동 직무대행은 윤석열 대통령과 텔레그램 메시지를 주고 받고 있던 모습이 국회 사진기자단 카메라에 포착됐다.
이 사진에는 '대통령 윤석열'로 표시된 발신자가 "우리당도 잘하네요. 계속 이렇게 해야", "내부 총질이나 하던 당 대표가 바뀌니 달라졌습니다"라고 메세지를 보냈다. 이에 권성동 대행은 "대통령님의 뜻을 잘 받들어 당정이 하나되는 모습을 보이겠습니다"라고 답했다.
윤석열 대통령과 권성동 대행간 사적 대화 내용이지만, 이준석 대표를 '내부 총질이나 하던 당 대표'로 지칭한 것을 두고 논란이 커졌다.
윤 대통령은 줄곧 "대통령으로서 당무에 대해 언급하는 것은 적절치 않다"고 선을 그어왔으나, 이준석 대표를 바라보는 시선이 그대로 문자메시지에 드러났기 때문이다.
이와 관련, 대통령실은 별도의 입장문을 내지 않겠다고 밝혔으며 더불어민주당측에선 "대통령이 하라는 국정은 관심없고 메시지로 여당 대표 상대로 내부 총질 운운하고 좌표 찍기나 하고 있었다"고 맹비판했다.

권성동 직무대행도 의도한 것은 아니지만 윤 대통령과의 사적 대화 내용이 언론에 공개된 데 대해 "저의 부주의로 대통령과의 사적인 대화 내용이 노출되며 오해를 불러일으킨 것은 전적으로 저의 잘못"이라고 사과했다.
권성동 대행은 "대통령께 국민의힘의 통 큰 양보로 국회가 정상화되었고, 대정부질문에서도 의원님들 한 분 한 분의 열띤 질의를 통해 국민께서 힘들어하는 경제난을 이겨내려 애쓰고 있다고 말씀드렸다"며 "밤낮없이 민생 위기 극복에 애태우는 대통령의 마음을 누구보다 잘 알고 또 실천해야 하기 때문"이라고 설명했다.
이어 "당 대표 직무대행까지 맡으며 원구성에 매진해온 저를 위로하면서 고마운 마음도 전하려 일부에서 회자되는 표현을 사용하신 것으로 생각된다"며 "오랜 대선기간 함께 해오며 이준석 당대표에 대한 불편함을 드러낸 적이 전혀 없었기 때문"이라고 강조했다.
권 대행은 그러면서 "다시 한번 국민과 당원동지 여러분께 사과드린다. 선배동료 의원들께도 송구한 마음을 전한다"고 덧붙였다.
