[브레이크뉴스=정철규기자] 진주시가 법정 문화도시로 지정받기 위해 ‘제5차 문화도시 공모’에 신청서를 제출해 서면평가를 통과, 예비문화도시 최종 선정을 위한 현장평가와 발표평가를 남겨두고 있다고 밝혔다.
문화도시는 지역별 특색 있는 문화자원을 효과적으로 활용해 문화창조력을 강화할 수 있도록 지역문화진흥법에 따라 지정한 도시다.
문화체육관광부가 주관하는 공모에 지자체가 자체적으로 수립한 ‘문화도시 조성계획’을 제출하면 문화도시심의위원회의 심의를 거쳐 최종 선정된다.
현재 진주시는 지난 6월 30일까지 공모한 ‘제5차 문화도시 공모에서 서면평가를 통과해 예비문화도시로서 현장 검토 대상지로 선정된 상태다.
