브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 박순애 사회부총리 겸 교육부 장관이 8일 결국 자진 사퇴했다.
그는 후보자 지명 이후부터 각종 의혹에 휩싸였고, 결국 임명 35일만에 사의를 표했다.
박순애 부총리는 이날 오후 서울 영등포구 여의도 한국교육시설안전원에서 기자회견을 열고 "저는 오늘 부총리 겸 교육부 장관직을 사퇴하고자 한다"며 "학제개편 등 모든 책임은 제게 있으며 제 불찰이다. 우리 아이들의 더 나은 미래를 기원한다"고 밝혔다.
그는 이같은 짧은 입장 표명만 했고, 다른 말은 일절 하지 않았다.
한편 박순애 부총리는 지난 5월 26일 사회부총리 겸 교육부 장관 후보자로 발탁된 후 인사청문회를 거치지 않고 지난달 4일 임명이 재가됐다.
그는 후보자 지명 이후 '만취 음주운전' 전력, 논문 중복게재 의혹, 자녀 학교생활기록부 첨삭 등 각종 의혹이 제기됐으나 사회부총리에 임명됐다.
임명 이후에는 '반도체 관련 인재양성 방안'을 통해 수도권 대학 정원 규제 완화를 시사하자, 지방대학 위기가 심화할 수 있다는 지적이 뒤따랐다.
특히 지난달 29일 발표한 '초등학교 입학 연령 1년 단축'과 관련해선 거센 여론의 비판을 받았다. 국민적 공감대가 이뤄지지 않은 상황에서 내놓은 정책 탓에 비판을 면할 수 없었다. 박 부총리는 '사회적 논의 결과에 따라 철회할 수 있다'며 수습에 나섰지만 비판은 잦아들지 않았다.
그는 지난 4일 가진 대국민 기자회견에서 학제개편 관련한 질문엔 답하지 않아 또 한번 논란의 중심에 섰다.
