고양시가 공간특성을 고려한 다양한 보도 디자인을 적용, 기존 정형화돼있던 보행 공간을 개선할 계획이라고 밝혔다.
고양시는 덕양지역의 구도심은 물론 일산지역도 1기 신도시로, 조성된 지 30년이 넘어감에 따라 도시 노후화가 빠르게 진행되고 있다.
특히 보도블록의 노후화가 10년 이상 진행된 구간의 경우 보행량이 많거나 가로수 뿌리가 올라오는 등의 사유로 인해 보도가 평탄하지 않아 보행자의 안전을 위협하고 있다.
이동환 고양시장은 지난달 실시한 민선8기 업무보고 중 해당 문제를 해결하기 위한 방안으로 기존 정형화된 보도블록을 탈피한 새로운 디자인의 보도를 구상할 것을 제안했다.
기존 보도블록으로 주로 쓰이는 인조화강블록(20cm×20cm×6cm) 또는 인터로킹블록(20cm×10cm×6cm)을 활용한 디자인을 벗어나 다양한 소재, 패턴구성이 가능한 디자인 블록 및 기능성 블록을 적극 활용하는 등 보도블록의 재료를 다양화할 것을 제안했다.
또, 보도블록을 기존 규격보다 대형화해 기존 보도에 비해 평탄하고 안전한 보도를 조성·유지하면서도, 넓고 탁 트인 공간으로 심미성을 높인 보도 디자인으로 변화시킬 것을 제안했다.

새로 설치되는 보도의 경우에는 인도와 차도의 단차를 줄여 노약자나 휠체어 이용객 등 보행약자의 편의성도 함께 고려하도록 했다.
시는 보도 노후화가 진행되고 있는 구간 중 특히 보행량이 많은 광장 및 공원에 해당 아이디어를 우선 반영해 보행 공간을 개선해나갈 계획이다.
우선 내달 중 일산병원 사거리 인근 일산로에 대해 개선을 추진, 12월 준공을 목표로 하고 있다.
시는 이후 사업대상지를 순차적으로 발굴·확대할 계획으로, 고양특례시 도시브랜드에 걸맞은 경관 확보를 위해 보도정비 사업을 꾸준히 추진할 방침이라고 밝혔다.
