최민호 시장, 중입자가속기 암치료센터 유치전략 점검

세종시가 ‘의료복지도시 세종’ 구현을 앞당기기 위해 ‘국립 중입자 가속기 암치료센터’ 유치를 추진 중인 가운데, 현장 방문을 통한 전략 점검에 나섰다.

최민호 세종시장은 지난 16일 대전 국제과학비즈니스벨트에 에 위치한 ‘중이온가속기 연구소’를 직접 찾아 가속기시설을 돌아보며 중부권 중입자가속기 암치료센터 유치전략을 점검했다.

중이온가속기 연구소는 저에너지 중이온가속기, 고에너지 중이온가속기 일부 등 국내 최대 이온가속기 시설을 보유한 곳으로, 국내 가속기 전문인력과 연구자를 육성하고 있다.

최 시장은 이날 홍승우 중이온가속기 연구소장, 고려대 이긍원 교수 등 관련 전문가들과 만나 중이온가속기 구축사업 추진상황을 듣고, 가속기 시설구역으로 이동해 가속기 장치 및 설비 공간을 시찰했다.

시찰에서는 세종시가 추진 중인 중입자가속기의 구성장치 현황, 주요특징, 국내사례 등에 대한 설명도 진행돼 가속기시설에 대한 이해도를 높이는 시간을 갖기도 했다.
