[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시가 2일 국방과학연구소 박종승 소장을 초청해 첨단국방과학기술 확보를 위한 협력방안을 논의했다.
이날 류존하 해양기술연구원장, 오우섭 항공기술연구원장, 고덕곤 정책기획부장 등이 함께 참석해 창원시와 국방과학연구소 간 방산 협력방안을 논의했다.
국방과학연구소는 국방에 필요한 무기 및 국방과학기술에 대한 기술적 조사, 연구, 개발 및 시험 등을 담당해 국방력 강화와 자주국방 완수에 기여하기 위해 설립된 방위사업청 출연기관이다.
시는 그간 첨단국방과학기술을 유치하고 산업 클러스터를 조성하기 위해 ‘방위·원자력산업 특화 국가산단 2.0’과 ‘차세대 첨단 복합빔 조사시설 구축’ 등 국비확보에 주력해왔다.
특히, 창원시와 국방과학연구소는 진해 첨단산업연구단지(옛 육대부지)에 첨단함정연구센터를 조성 중이다.
지난 3월 첫 삽을 뜬 첨단함정연구센터는 창원시가 부지 2만 3,273m2를 제공하고, 국방과학연구소가 국비 858억2,500만원 확보해 2027년까지 단계별로 첨단연구시설을 구축하는 사업이다.
안경원 제1부시장은 “첨단연구시설 유치, 인재확보 지원 등을 통해 국방과학기술 분야 발전 및 첨단산업클러스터 조성에 최선의 노력을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
