브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차가 국회사무처와 함께 내년 상반기 중 인공지능(AI)과 자율주행 기술을 결합한 ‘국회 자율주행 셔틀’을 선보인다.
현대차는 4일 국회에서 국회사무처 이광재 사무총장, 박장호 입법차장, 홍형선 사무차장과 현대차 공영운 사장, 장웅준 자율주행사업부 전무, 김수영 MCS(Mobility & Connected-car Service) Lab 상무 등 주요 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 국회사무처와 ‘국회 자율주행자동차 도입에 관한 업무협약’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이번 협약은 미래 모빌리티 산업을 활성화하고, 국회 방문객들의 이동 편의를 증진하기 위해 체결됐다.
국회 자율주행차의 원활한 운행을 위해 현대차는 자율주행 차량과 서비스 플랫폼의 제공 및 운영, 관리를 담당한다.
국회사무처는 자율주행 차량 임시운행허가 취득, 시범 서비스 지역의 자율주행차 시범운행지구 지정 및 구간 내 교통신호 연동을 위한 유관 기관 협업 지원을 비롯해, 경내 자율주행 환경 조성과 차량 관리 인프라를 제공한다.
협약에 따라 내년 상반기 중 대형 승합차(쏠라티 11인승)를 개조한 ‘로보셔틀’이 국회 경내와 방문객 전용 주차장인 둔치주차장을 잇는 3.1㎞ 구간에 투입돼 시범 서비스에 나선다.
로보셔틀은 로봇(Robot)과 버스를 의미하는 셔틀(Shuttle)의 합성어로, 다인승 차량에 자율주행 기술을 탑재한 모빌리티를 의미한다.
현대차가 자체 개발한 레벨4 수준의 핵심 기술 적용으로 차량이 스스로 주행 상황을 인지 및 판단해 제어하는 등 일부 예외적 상황 이외에는 비상 운전자가 개입하지 않는 것이 특징이다.
또한, 현대차의 수요응답형 승차공유 모빌리티 서비스인 ‘셔클’ 플랫폼을 접목해, 승객이 어플리케이션을 통해 출발지와 도착지를 지정하면 AI가 계산한 최적 경로에 따라 차량이 자동 배차된다.
현대차와 국회사무처 양 측은 향후 운행 노선 추가를 통해 서비스 대상 지역을 국회 경내에서 주변 지역까지 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

이광재 국회사무총장은 “국회에서 자율주행차 서비스를 시범 도입하면 규제를 완화하고 기술 발전을 지원하는 입법이 활발해질 것”이라며 “국회가 미래산업의 프리존이 되겠다”고 전했다.
한편, 현대차는 지난 해 7월 세종 스마트시티에서 로보셔틀 서비스를 처음 선보인 바 있고, 올 9월부터는 경기도 판교 제로시티에서 시범 서비스를 진행 중이다.
