필자는 희망론자(希望論者)이다. 평생 희망(希望)만을 먹고 살았다. 과거를 회고해 본다.
희망론자인 이유가 있다. 필자는 전남 담양군 수북면의 남평문씨 집성촌에 태어났다. 수백년 대대로 이어진 집성촌은 농사꾼만 사는 농촌 마을이었다. 벼를 경작(耕作)했다. 필자는 담양 농고를 졸업했으니, 그 당시는 말 그대로 어린 농사꾼이었다. 대학에서는 문학을 전공했지만, 고등학교 시절까지는 농사꾼으로 자랐다. 식량 부족으로 배가 고파본 적도 있었다. 1차 산업 시대를 온몸으로 체험하며 살았다. 필자 어릴 적, 이 마을엔 전기가 들어오지 않아 밤이면 깜깜한 마을이었다. 필자는 그런 나라에서 어린 시절을 보냈다. 그런 나라가 바로 '대한민국'이다.
그런데 2022년. 오늘의 대한민국은 질적(質的) 변화를 거듭, 선진국에 진입하기 직전의 선진국 문턱에 다다라 있는 국가 됐다. 이런 과정에서, 필자는 눈에는 절망(絶望)이 아닌 희망만이 보였다. 가난한 1차산업의 국가가 세계 최고의 부자(富者) 나라인 선진국 반열을 눈앞에 두고 있으니 말이다. 특히 일 있었던 올 무역의 날 기념식에 참석해서 축사한 윤석열 대통령의 발언을 접하면서 감동(感動)이 다가왔다.
본지(브레이크뉴스) 12월5일치 보도에 따르면 윤석열 대통령은 이날 “2026년 수출 5대 강국으로의 도약을 위해 모든 수출지원 역량을 결집할 것”이라고 비전을 제시했다. 4년 이후, 우리나라가 세계 5대 수출 강국(强國)자리를 차지하게 위해 노력해야 한다는 것이다.
윤석열 대통령은 “중동·중남미·아프리카 같은 성장 잠재력 높은 신흥시장과 신규 자유무역협정을 추진해 우리 FTA네트워크를 확장해 나갈 것”이라면서 “고물가·고환율·고금리로 글로벌 경기침체가 우려되는 상황이나 올해 큰 수출성과를 달성했다. 세계 수출순위가 지난해 7위에서 6위로 상승했고, 올해 6800억 달러가 넘는 사상 최고 수출 실적을 앞두고 있다”고 말했다. 이어 “반도체 수출은 17개월 연속 100억 달러, 석유제품 수출도 7개월 연속 50억 달러를 달성하며 역대 최고 실적을 경신했다. 3조원 규모 이집트 엘다바 원전 사업을 수주했고 폴란드와 124억 달러의 대규모 방산수출계약을 성사시키면서 역대 최대 규모인 170억 달러를 달성했다”고 강조했다. 윤석열 대통령은 “앞으로 정상 외교는 철저히 우리 기업 수출 촉진·해외 진출에 초점맞춰 이뤄지도록 할 것”이라면서 “우리 가능성·잠재력을 확인한 원전·방산·인프라 건설·K-콘텐츠를 새 주력 수출 산업으로 적극 육성하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

현재 우리나라는 세계 수출 강국 6위의 순위라고 한다. 윤석열 대통령은 수출 강국 6위에서 5위로 올라가는 기간을 4년 이후로 설정했다. 물론, 이에 다다르려면 거국적인 혼신의 노력이 필요할 것이다.
필자는 가난했던 농업국가 시대를 온 몸으로 살아본 사람이다. 가난을 몸으로 체험했었다. 우리나라는 '참혹한 폐허'로 상징되는 전쟁(1950-1953년)을 경험한 나라이기도 하다. 그러나 오늘을 기점으로 과거의 기간은 우리나라에게 희망의 기간이었다고 본다.
이후, 우리나라는 세계의 내로라하는 부자국가 반열에 곧 다다를 것이다. 그간 축약(縮約) 성장 했다. 기적을 만들어냈다. 신화를 창출했다. 필자는 대한민국 이후의 날 역시도 희망의 날이 될 것이라고 내다본다. 과거가 그랬듯이. 대한민국 국민들은 불안을 떨쳐버리고 희망을 가져도 된다.

The jipseongchon, which continued from generation to generation for hundreds of years, was a rural village where only farmers lived. He cultivated rice. I graduated from Damyang Agricultural High School, so at that time he was literally a young farmer. He majored in literature in college, but grew up as a farmer until high school. There were times when he was hungry for lack of food. He lived and experienced the first industrial age with his whole body. When I was young, this village was dark at night because there was no electricity. I spent my childhood in such a country. Such a country is the Republic of Korea.
But in 2022. Today's Republic of Korea has repeatedly undergone qualitative changes and has become a country that is on the verge of entering an advanced country. In this process, I saw only hope, not despair, in his eyes. This is because a country with a poor primary industry is facing the ranks of advanced countries, the world's richest countries. In particular, I was moved by the remarks of President Yoon Seok-yeol, who attended the ceremony to commemorate this trade day and gave a congratulatory speech.
According to a report from this magazine (Break News) on December 5, President Seok-Yeol Yoon presented a vision that day, saying, “We will mobilize all our export support capabilities to become one of the top five export powerhouses by 2026.” After 4 years, Korea should make efforts to occupy the position of the world's 5th largest export powerhouse.

After that, Korea will soon reach the ranks of the richest countries in the world. In the meantime, it has grown abbreviated. created a miracle created a myth. I predict that the day after Korea will also be a day of hope. as in the past.
