[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시 상대지구가 2022년 국토교통부 도시재생 공모사업에 최종 선정됐다.
조규일 진주시장은 15일 시청 브링핑룸에서 기자회견을 갖고 상대지구가 2022년 도시재생 공모사업에 선정됐다고 밝혔다.
진주시는 신도심 개발에 따른 도시 확장 등 복합적인 요인으로 인구 유출과 상권 침체라는 이중고를 겪고 있는 원도심 활력을 높이기 위해 정부가 추진 중인 도시재생사업 공모에 적극적으로 참여해왔다.
이번에 선정 상대지구 도시재생사업은 진주시청이 입지한 행정 중심지에 있지만 지난 2014년 창원지방법원 진주지원과 창원지방검찰청 진주지청이 신안동으로 이전해 도심의 활력이 필요한 상태였다.
진주시는 정부에 지역의 특성과 상징성을 향상시키는 특화재생 방향으로 공모 유형이 개편되어 보다 적극적이고 체계적인 공간 활용을 모색해 상대지구 재생사업 계획을 수립했다.
시는 내년 상반기 옛 창원지법 진주지원·창원지검 진주지청∼자유시장 일원에 185억5000만원의 사업비를 투입해 약 20만㎡ 규모로 상대지구 도시재생사업에 본격 착수, 오는 2026년 완공을 목표로 추진한다.
시의 이번 상대지구 도시재생사업은 남강 북쪽 원도심 중심축인 성북지구의 역사·교육기능, 남강 남쪽 원도심 중심축인 강남지구의 문화·예술기능을 포함하고 있다.
또 중앙지구의 상권 활성화 기능을 연결, 상대지구의 창업 지원과 교육, 로컬크리에이터 육성, 상권 특화기능을 통해 원도심과의 활발한 교류로 상생 발전을 기대하고 있다.
