브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차는 31일 보도자료를 통해 ‘디 올 뉴 코나’에 ‘엠바이옴(EMBIOME)’의 차량 실내 공기정화 신기술 ‘에코 코팅(Eco Coating)’을 적용했다고 밝혔다.
‘에코 코팅’은 사내스타트업에서 독립기업으로 분사한 엠바이옴이 차량 실내 공기질에 대한 고객들의 관심이 높아지고 있다는 점에 착안, 바이오 기술과 자동차 공조 기술을 융합해 개발한 친환경 공기정화 기술이다.
엠바이옴은 차량 에어컨에 서식하는 4000여종의 미생물을 분석해 불쾌한 냄새를 유발하지 않고 해롭지 않으면서도 장기간 사용할 수 있는 마이크로바이 조합을 개발했다.
‘에코 코팅’은 개발된 마이크로바이옴을 차량 에어컨 증발기에 코팅하는 기술로 차량 실내 공기질 개선 효과뿐만 아니라 높은 안전성과 지속력을 기대할 수 있다.
코팅된 마이크로바이옴은 외부에서 유입되거나 차량 내부에서 발생하는 휘발성유기화합물 등 불쾌한 냄새를 유발할 수 있는 다양한 가스 성분을 생물정화(Bioremediation) 작용으로 처리해 실내 공기를 쾌적하게 유지한다.
엠바이옴의 마이크로바이옴 기술은 한국의 안전성평가연구소(KIT) 및 환경부, 인도 친환경 제품 평가 연구소 등 국내외 관련 기관 및 실차 테스트를 통해 검증됐을 뿐만 아니라, 인도 전략 차종 ‘쌍트로’ 등에 적용돼 대기오염 문제가 심한 인도 시장에서 인기를 얻은 바 있다.
엠바이옴은 ‘에코 코팅’을 메탄과 같은 주요 온실가스 정화에도 활용할 수 있도록 개발하는 등 마이크로바이옴 기술을 지속 발전시킨다는 계획이다.
