고제면은 지난해 1월 구인모 군수의 읍·면 순방 시 고제면의 역사와 문화유산 등을 기록하기 위한 면지 편찬사업 지원을 건의했고 군 예산 지원으로 이번 면지 편찬을 추진하게 됐다.
올해 1월 선정위원회를 통해 고제면지 편찬위원회를 구성하고 사무실 정비와 업무 연찬을 거쳐 9일 발대식과 현판식 개최를 기점으로 고제면의 향토사를 집대성하기 위한 첫발을 내디뎠다.
고제면지 편찬위원회는 △위원장 백신종 △부위원장 채한식 △총괄위원 한대수 △간사 이해용을 주축으로 2024년 12월 발간을 목표로 고제면의 역사·문화재·종교·자연·지리·인물 등을 총망라한 1200면의 면지 편찬을 추진할 계획이다.
