브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미국 백악관은 한국 등 동맹국에 대한 도청, 감청을 실행한 의혹이 담긴 기밀문건이 유출된 사태와 관련, 문서 유출 사실 자체에 대해선 시인했다.
10일(현지시각) CNN 보도에 따르면 존 커비 백악관 국가안보회의(NSC) 전략소통조정관은 브리핑을 통해 "(유출 된) 문건들은 공공 영역(public domain)에 있어서는 안 되는 것들"이라며 "이런 종류의 문서가 공공 영역에 있는 것에 대해 변명의 여지가 없다"고 유출된 것이 사실임을 인정했다.
이어 "우리는 이 사건을 매우 심각하게 생각하고 있다는 것을 국민이 알아야 한다"며 "끝까지 조사해 필요한 조치가 있으면 취하겠다"고 밝혔다.
커비 조정관은 다만 "유출된 문건 일부는 변경됐다"면서 "조작되지 않은 것으로 보이는 문건을 비롯해 모든 문건이 유효한 것인지에 대해서는 말하지 않겠다"고 했다.
문건 유출 사건이 발생한 것 자체는 사실이지만 그 유출된 문서들에 담긴 내용의 진위 여부까지는 확인해줄 순 없다는 것이다.
이에 기자들은 "유출 문서들이 가짜라면 걱정하지 않아야 하는 게 맞지 않나"라고 묻자, 커비 조정관은 "나는 그 문서들이 가짜라고 말하지 않았다. 다만 일부가 변경된 것으로 보인다"고 말했다.

그러면서 "기밀 정보의 유출은 심각한 피해를 주고 신뢰를 해친다고 말하고 싶다. 국방부를 포함한 정부 전반에 걸쳐 (동맹국들과) 대화를 진행하고 있다"고 답변했다.
한편, 대통령실은 11일 입장문을 통해 "미국 정부의 도감청 의혹'에 대해 양국(한미) 국방장관은 '해당 문건의 상당 수가 위조됐다'는 사실에 견해가 일치했다"면서 "앞으로 굳건한 '한미 정보 동맹'을 통해 양국의 신뢰와 협력체계를 보다 강화해 나갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.
