브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 미국 정부는 최근 윤석열 대통령이 우크라이나 민간인 대량 학살 시 군사 지원 언급에 러시아가 한반도 안보에 관여할 수 있다고 위협한 것과 관련, 한미는 매우 진지한 관계라며 한미동맹의 단단함을 거듭 상기시켰다.
20일(현지시간) 뉴욕타임스 보도에 따르면 존 커비 국가안보회의(NSC) 전략소통조정관은 이날 백악관 브리핑에서 '러시아 크렘린궁 대변인이 한국을 협박한 것을 어떻게 보느냐'는 질문에 "우리는 한국과 조약 동맹이며 그 약속을 매우 진지하게 여긴다는 점을 상기시키고 싶다"고 답했다.
커비 조정관은 "한국은 훌륭한 동맹이자 친구"라고 재차 강조하면서 "한국은 이미 우크라이나에 1억달러 상당의 인도적 지원을 제공해왔다는 점에서 감사하다"고 했다.
또한 미 국무부 대변인실도 이날 미국의소리(VOA)를 통해 "한국은 침공 초기부터 러시아의 침략에 맞서 우크라이나의 영토 주권을 수호하는 데 있어 든든한 파트너"라며 "한국 정부가 러시아에 취한 경제적 조치는 물론 인도적 지원 제공, 전력 공급망 복구 지원, 다자간 결의에 대한 지지를 높게 평가한다"고 치켜세웠다.
그러면서 "우리는 우크라이나에 대한 추가 지원에 대해 동맹국과 긴밀히 협력해 나갈 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
