타이어 공기압 확인
빗길 운전에서 타이어의 공기압 점검은 선택이 아닌 필수다.
특히 기온이 크게 변하는 시기에는 공기가 수축 ·팽창하며 공기압이 크게 변할 수 있다. 타이어 공기압이 과다하면 트레드 중앙부 위주로 노면에 접지하는 탓에 주행 충격에 대한 흡수력이 약해지고, 통통튀는 승차감으로 순간 바퀴가 들리며 접지력을 잃고 미끄러질 가능성이 높아진다.
반대로 공기압이 권장치보다 현저히 낮으면 제동 능력의 저하와 함께 조향 성능도 떨어지며 사고 위험이 커진다. 특히 빗길에선 접지면적이 과도하게 늘어나며 수막현상이 일어나기 쉽다.
이 때문에 가능하면 월 1회 주기적으로 점검해 적정 공기압을 맞추는 것이 좋다. 차량의 적정 공기압은 제조업체의 권장 공기압을 참고하면 된다. 아울러 여름철에는 뜨겁게 달궈진 아스팔트 도로로 인해 타이어 속 공기도 팽창하기 때문에 권장 공기압보다 2~3psi 가량 적게 넣는 것이 좋다.
