브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차와 기아는 차량용 반도체를 개발하는 스타트업 보스반도체에 20억원 규모의 후속 투자를 실시했다고 28일 밝혔다.
앞서 지난해 8월 현대차·기아는 스타트업 투자를 위해 설립한 오픈이노베이션 플랫폼 제로원 2호 펀드를 통해 보스반도체에 투자한 바 있다.
보스반도체는 고객사의 차량용 소프트웨어 및 요구사항에 최적화된 시스템 반도체를 설계 및 개발하는 팹리스(fabless) 스타트업이다.
보스반도체는 차량용 반도체에 필수적인 고성능 저전력 반도체 설계 기술, 안전 및 신뢰성 관련 기술, 자율주행에 필요한 AI 반도체 기술 등에서의 경쟁력을 바탕으로 글로벌 수준의 팹리스로 성장하는 것을 목표하고 있다.
이번 투자는 기업가치 산정이 어려운 스타트업에 투자금을 우선 제공하고 후속 투자 유치 시 산정된 기업가치를 기준으로 투자자의 지분을 결정하는 ‘조건부지분인수계약(Simple Agreement for Future Equity, SAFE)’ 방식으로 진행됐다.
현대차·기아는 이번 투자로 보스반도체와 전략적 협업을 강화해 전기차 및 자율주행 차 등에 일부 적용 가능한 맞춤형 차량용 반도체 개발을 추진한다는 계획이다.
현대차·기아 관계자는 “급변하는 자동차 및 미래 모빌리티 시장에서 최적화 및 차별화된 고성능 반도체의 중요성이 증가하고 있다”며 “일부 맞춤형 차량용 반도체 개발을 위해 보스반도체와 긴밀한 파트너십을 구축해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
