신천지예수교 증거장막성전(총회장 이만희)는 8월13일자 보도자료에서 “앳된 얼굴의 8세 어린이가 목회자들도 어려워하는 요한계시록을 막힘없이 설교해 감탄이 쏟아지고 있다. 신천지예수교 증거장막성전(총회장 이만희, 이하 신천지예수교회)이 지난달 19일부터 국내외 최초 평신도 수요예배 설교를 진행하는 가운데, 3주차부터 초·중·고교에 재학 중인 유년부·학생부 회원들이 설교에 나서 감동과 놀라움을 자아냈다”고 전했다.
이 보도자료는 “지난 7월 19일부터 8월9일까지 전국 78개 교회 312명의 일반 성도가 수요예배 설교를 진행했다. 이들은 모두 신학교를 다녔거나, 설교경험이 전무한 이들이었다. 이중 초·중·고교생은 49.8%(155명)으로 최연소 설교자는 초등학교 3학년으로 8세(성남교회)였다. 설교에 참여한 학생들은 평소 성경공부와 스피치 연습으로 설교를 할 수 있었다고 말했다”고 소개했다.
이 자료에 따르면, 윤수아(여, 17) 양은 “교회에서 진행하는 성경시험과 성경 스피치 스터디를 통해 마음에 새겨진 성경말씀이 자연스레 나와 스스로 놀랐고, 정말 은혜로운 경험을 했다”고 말했다. 이예은(여, 19) 양도 “언젠가 말씀을 전하는 사람이 될 것이라는 생각으로 준비해왔다. 말씀을 전하는데 나이는 중요하지 않다는 생각과 내가 말씀과 함께 하니 하나님께서 입술을 주장해주실 것이라 믿고 설교했다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
신천지예수교회 관계자는 일반적으로 교회 유년부에서는 찬양, 율동대회, 성경암송 등을 진행하는데, 이같이 설교가 가능한 비결은 어릴 때부터 진행하는 리더십 및 강의자 교육에 있다고 강조했다. 교회 학생부에서는 청소년기 학생의 본분을 다하면서 신앙생활의 균형을 맞춰가기 위해 ▲교회 내 공부방 운영 ▲대학부·청년부 학습 멘토링 ▲문화활동 등도 지원하고 있다고덧붙였다.
지난 8월9일 수요예배 설교를 했던 오지환(남, 19) 군은 “현재 교회에서 핸드벨 콰이어 팀에 소속돼 활동 중인데, (계시록 설교시)팀원들의 많은 응원과 축하를 받았다”며 “우리 핸드벨 콰이어 팀이 세계 최고의 팀이 되도록 노력하며 꿈을 펼치고 싶다”는 포부도 밝혔다. 설교에 나선 학생들은 “강의를 더 잘하고 싶다는 소망이 생겼다”, “말씀을 땅끝까지 전하는 강의자, 전도자가 되겠다”는 등 더 구체적이고 확실한 꿈을 갖게 됐다고 전했다.
신천지예수교회 김인희 전국(총괄) 학생부장은 “어린 아이들과 청소년들이 설교하는 것이 가능하냐는 시각도 있지만, 우리 아이들은 평상시 많은 기도와 스피치로 준비해 은혜 속에서 진행할 수 있었다”며 “(아이들이)정식 예배 단에 서는 것은 처음이라 부모님들이 더 긴장하셨는데, 오히려 아이들은 아랑곳하지 않고 즐거움과 소망 속에 말씀을 전하며 더욱 단단해졌다”고 강조했다. 그는 “요한계시록을 단에서 설교할 수 있는 학생들은 전 세계에서 신천지예수교회 밖에 없다는 사실에 큰 자부심과 긍지를 가진다. 앞으로 교계를 이끌어갈 수 있는 멋진 리더로 양육하기 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 피력했다.

In a press release dated August 13, Shincheonji Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Chairman Man-Hee Lee), said, “An 8-year-old child with a youthful face preaches the Book of Revelation, which is difficult even for pastors, and is pouring out in admiration. Shincheonji, Church of Jesus, the Temple of the Tabernacle of the Testimony (Chairman Man-Hee Lee, hereinafter Shincheonji, Church of Jesus) held the first domestic and foreign layperson Wednesday worship sermon from the 19th of last month. And it was a surprise,” he said.
This press release reads, “From July 19th to August 9th, 312 general believers from 78 churches nationwide preached Wednesday worship services. All of them went to seminary or had no preaching experience. Among them, elementary, middle and high school students accounted for 49.8% (155 people), and the youngest preacher was 8 years old (Seongnam Church) in the 3rd grade of elementary school. Students who participated in the sermon said that they were able to preach through regular Bible study and speech practice.”
According to this data, Soo-ah Yoon (female, 17) said, "Through the Bible test and Bible speech study held at the church, the words of the Bible that were engraved in my heart came out naturally, and I was surprised by myself. It was a truly gracious experience." Lee Ye-eun (female, 19) Yang said, “She has been preparing with the thought that one day she will become a preacher of the Word. I preached with the thought that age is not important when it comes to preaching the Word, and believing that God would claim my lips as I was with the Word,” she said.
An official from Shincheonji Church of Jesus emphasized that, in general, church youth groups hold praise, dance competitions, and Bible recitations. He added that the church's student department supports ▲operation of study rooms in the church ▲learning mentoring for university and youth groups ▲cultural activities in order to balance the life of faith while fulfilling the duties of an adolescence student.
Oh Ji-hwan (male, 19), who preached the Wednesday worship service on August 9, said, “I am currently active as a member of the handbell choir team at church, and I received a lot of support and congratulations from the team members (when preaching on the Book of Revelation).” I want to make my dream come true by working hard to make the team the best team in the world.” The students who attended the sermon said that they had more concrete and clear dreams, such as “I have a desire to give better lectures” and “I will become a lecturer and evangelist who spreads the word to the ends of the earth.”
Shincheonji Church of Jesus National Student Affairs Director Kim In-hee said, “There is a view that it is possible for young children and teenagers to preach, but our children prepared with a lot of prayers and speeches on a daily basis and were able to proceed with grace.” Parents were more nervous because it was the first time they were standing on the altar, but the children did not care and preached the word with joy and hope and became stronger.” He said, “I take great pride and pride in the fact that Shincheonji Church of Jesus is the only student in the world who can preach the Book of Revelation in a podium. I will do my best to nurture him into a great leader who can lead the religious world in the future.”
