포항해경은 지난 9월 13일 오후 5시 52분쯤 포항시 북구 흥해읍 오도2리 앞 1.8km(약 1해리)에서 고무보트 A호 조타기가 고장 나면서 조종이 안 된다는신고를 접수했다.
신고를 받은 영일만파출소는 연안구조정을 출동시켰으며, 관내 민간해양구조대에도 지원을 요청했다.
현장에 도착한 연안구조정은 수중레저객(다이버)을 확인하고 곧 바로 구조하려 했지만 수중레저객(다이버)이 착용한 장비가 무거운 데다 당시 기상(파고 2M, 풍속 8~12m/s)이매우 나빠 뒤이어 도착한 민간해양구조대 C호(모터보트)에지원 요청을 했다.
수중레저객(다이버) 5명 중 4명은 C호에 안전하게 구조되었고 A호 인근에있던나머지 1명은 A호로 올라탔다.연안구조정은 A호에 예인줄을 연결하고 오도2리항으로 향했다.
오도2리항은 수심이 낮아 진입이 곤란해 추가로 오도2리항에서 출항한 민간해양구조대 D호(고무보트)에게 A호를 인계했다.
포항해경 관계자는 “해상에서 조종이 안되는 상태는 매우 위험하고 2차 사고로이어질 수 있어 신속하게 신고해야하며, 출항 전 장비점검을 철저히해야 한다.”고 당부했다.
