브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이스라엘과 팔레스타인 간 전쟁이 본격화된 가운데 무함마드 빈 살만 사우디아라비아 왕세자가 팔레스타인을 지지하는 입장을 내놨다.
9일(현지시간) 사우디 관영 통신 WAFA 보도에 따르면 빈 살만 왕세자는 마무드 아바스 팔레스타인 자치정부(PA) 수반과의 통화에서 사우디는 팔레스타인 편에 서겠다는 말을 했다.
빈 살만 왕세자는 통화에서 "사우디는 계속해서 팔레스타인을 지킬 것이며 팔레스타인 영토의 평온과 안정을 되찾기 위한 노력을 아끼지 않을 것"이라고 강조했다.
빈 살만 왕세자는 또한 "사우디는 모든 국제 및 역내 당사국들과 소통하면서 전쟁 중단과 긴장 확대를 막기 위한 모든 노력을 기울이고 있으며 민간인을 겨냥한 공격을 중단하고 국제 인도주의법을 준수해야 한다"면서 "팔레스타인 국민들의 정당한 삶에 대한 합법적인 권리 달성, 그들의 희망과 소망 실현, 정의롭고 지속적인 평화를 이루기 위해 팔레스타인 국민들에 대한 지속적으로 지지하겠다"고 했다.
사우디는 팔레스타인과 같은 이슬람 수니파의 종주국이다.
한편 지난 7일 팔레스타인 가자 지구를 통치하고 있는 무장 정파 하마스는 이스라엘에 수천발의 로켓을 쏘며 무장대원 수십명을 침투시켰다. 침투한 무장대원들은 무차별 총격을 난사하며 이스라엘 군인과 민간인들을 죽이거나 가자지구로 납치해갔다.
